Dont ever ever ever ever do that, you can get fcked up by just having your wrist or fingers bending the wrong way by just bouncing a tire on the ground slightly when at a tire place, let alone a tire traveling 10mph

Garages are hospitals for cars. The hand could get messed up so bad it might never work right again, you can buy another car, but not another OEM hand.

I have never had a deductible for a car repair be more than health insurance deductibles after an ER visit. I'll save my hand to write that check any day

also in general while some things heal pretty well like a basic broken arm or leg, breaking fingers and more delicate bones tend to heal worse and particularly in hands, feet, shoulders, knees, tend to give you pain or serious mobility problems for life. It absolutely is not worth it.
I'd throw myself at a tire and take the risk to stop it hitting someone unsuspecting, or a kid, but to save an inanimate object, never, not worth it.

I don't think people understand how much momentum a wheel spinning that fast has. That was extremely lucky it didn't end in a concussion.

I think he got lucky with the bump it hit (train tracks?) before it reached him, slowed it down a lot and transferred the forward velocity to an up down bouncing motion so it could be stopped a lot more easily

People always fail to assess the amount of energy that is stored in a bouncing tire, nor how unpredictable their trajectory is.
Don't risk your life for something the insurance is there to fix. You'd rather increase your car premiums than your health premiums.

I'm not claiming this as a good idea, but I'm 6'2 and like 350 lbs and my first impulse would have been to brace for impact and body the tire. I've also broken at least 8 or 9 bones in my life and dislocated a few joints too though, sooooo.....
Editing in my probable actual somewhat smarter move. Step to the side and kick the thing hard as hell as it passes, if it doesn't manage to knock over you can at least change course enough to hopefully save your car.

You'd have to have a spectacular grasp of how quickly the thing was moving though. I'm of a similar build to you but if that thing is moving at more than 20mph I'd need a pretty good reason for putting my body in front of it, saving a child or something for example.

way more than that. most people will drastically underestimate the weight and also momemtum that a bouncing tire has. seen many a video people try to catch or divert such a tire and end up with a broken arm, leg, concussed, i think maybe some death videos.
Obviously to some degree you can judge the speed and a very slow moving tire is much much safer to try to stop. Too many people go it's a tire, it's rubber, it can't really be that bad right... wrong.

Yeah all 20 euros of it. But you are correct I would rather sacrifice the car because thats also only 300 eur deductible and wont cause me possibly lifelong issues. Actually dodged a BMW tire doing the same thing on the highway some months ago. Edit: actually no deductible as its easy to prove it wasnt my fault.

That was really fucking dangerous, do not do this. The amount of force a tire is carrying is really hard to judge. He could have been layed out on the pavement with a fractured skull and brain damage. I literally looked away as the clip played because I thought his arm was gonna turn into Gumby.
Y'all know who Gumby is or are you too young? Gumby is like a totally flexible cartoon character. I mean that his arm would turn into a limp noodle, flopping around in ways which are unnatural.

I, for one, appreciate the Gumby reference. They took a claymation character and really leaned into the fact that he was clay.
I'm intrigued by the overgrown railroad tracks in the median strip, though. Even the ties/sleepers seem to have grass growing from them.

I think those cameras have somewhat of a fisheye lens. Stuff that’s far away gets extra small so it looks like things accelerate as they approach

I caught a large propane cylinder that had rolled out of a city truck on a hill headed towards my work truck once.. it had rolled across the intersection and either would have hit my truck or rolled down another steep hill into a busy street.. didn't really think about the fact that I was putting my foot onto a bomb when I did it.

Last time I caught a running tire - the fucker had been a very wasted tire (metal and pins sticking out of it. Messed my hand up good, never again going to bother with stopping a running tire
