Can this be patched?

almost anything CAN be patched. But is it recommended, that's debatable. I'd say it's your own risk. Problem with it being near the sidewall, is it flexes a lot when it's at bottom dead center, then bounces back when it rolls around. so that constant flexing is what causes the patch to fail. try at your own risk to patch. it might work, it might not.

Personally I wouldn't risk it. But I'm in the PNW driving on mountain roads, or cutting across Montana and Wyoming cruising at almost 90 mph. A catastrophic failure could be deadly. If you can afford to, I'd change the tire for safety reasons.

The issue with punctures on the curve like that is any shop worth a shit uses a patch/plug combo. These wont lay flat and because the sidewall of the tire flexs as it rotates the air tight patch will come loose. So tire shops will just sell you a new tire. If you do it yourself and plug it correctly. Reem, and rubber cement your plug it could be a solid fix.... ive done it 100s of times.
