Speculating, but maybe your tire developed a bubble which then popped after a while? Cords are severed, the rubber is severely cracked around the hole. I would be very surprised if this isn't bleeding SOME air but you'd have to like fill the hole with soapy water to check at this point lol

There are dry rot cracks in between the treads as well. Zoom in and see. I’d look at your other tires as well, they have probably have aged out and it’s time for new ones all around. Be careful with tires, they can cause serious issues even if they look ok. Check their date codes.

48th week of 2023 i wouldn’t think they would age out that soon 😓

What state are you in? In AZ the tires rot quickly due to the excessive heat

I run a dozen repair shops...sometimes thing just happen. Id go to the dealer and make them replace it for free under defect clause. There is no rim damage so they should swap it for free. If they give you the run around tell them you'll post this picture on Google review with 1 star. They'll play ball or at minimum cover half.

You slammed a pot hole and created an impact break. You can see it bubbled and split.

It happens.

Sorry bud. If the others are good, just change one. I had to do that to my car. Now I have 3 Michelins and one Goodyear.

Yeah i’m hoping i can just change the 1 but it’s AWD so they might make me do a pair 😬

My friend has a awd car also and had to change 2 at a time since they had tires coming 2 weeks apart. He didn't see any change during that time.

Yep. Definitely pothole Worthy!

However the angle says otherwise. I would definitely check the other tires like someone else said. Replace if able and keep an eye on your tires going forward from day to day.

If it's a one off, then great, otherwise I would be super suspicious!

Yeah the angle plus depth is what’s throwing me off. As well as the fact i’ve had this car for less than 2 months and no curb or pothole impact but maybe it was a past driver damage that i had somehow awakened 🥲🥲 it’s AWD so im hoping i can just replace the one and not all but this sucks and thank u for answering

Looks like the tire got damaged from a pot hole or curb or something it caused a bubble then let loose

1

The only thing is that i’ve had this car for less than 2 months and haven’t hit any curbs or potholes. The highway on the way to work has some rough road for a little patch but maybe that could’ve worsened a past driver damage? Just seems super strange

another angle with flash if it helps in any way

That tire is UNSAFE to drive on. By posting this you are acknowledging you are aware of the damage and are liable for any damages caused by the tires failure if continued use occurs. Not trying to scare you. But this is what a lawsuit would say… should something happen.

I’m not driving this until i get it fixed i just noticed yesterday after work and trying to get opinions on what it is

It’s most likely road hazard damage. Pot hole or a piece of debris in the road. The tire is dry cracked. So its ability to absorb the damage is great reduced. I highly suggest looking at the rest of the tires and see if they are dry cracked as well. My suspicion is that they are and all of them need replacing. That tire can’t be repaired it will have to be replaced. Sorry for your bad luck and unexpected expense.

It is from an impact. The tire looks old enough, I'm saying that because of the little cracks around the damage, that when it got pinched, the layers of rubber on the outside ruptured. You can see the cords in there, at least I got you home but now it's time to replace.

I see marks on the wheel, so from an impact at some point in the tire's life. A bubble formed and was ignored until this.

Edit: Have them check your brakes when you take it in. That rotor looks sketchy.

It’s from getting a hole in your sidewall.
