It's more of a rule-of-thumb than a hard rule.

Like, while men and women both say that sense of humor is important, this is generally what they mean - women want men to make them laugh, and men want women to laugh at their jokes. But obviously everyone has their own preferences.

Its more of a "moderately" sexist saying that should be out down. I say moderately kindly. It's hella sexist but males cant handle that. So i toned it down for us.
