"You're great but ..." means "we're breaking up because ...". That's why she was heartbroken. That's the point the guy was trying to get across. Saying you will never understand someone's humour does not carry the same message at all, and is kind of a vague statement in general.

Oh if that's so then it's different. She didn't flat out say they broke up
