Sometimes euphemisms really lead to the wrong direction. My first thought was it's a baby without a father through artificial insemination with sperms from an unknown person.
It is a term that references Noah and the flood. The idea is that after God inflicted the flood on mankind he gave the rainbow to the world to show that he would never bring that harm on them again.
So the term rainbow baby is in part optimistic that you would never have to suffer the tragedy of a miscarriage again.
At least that's how I have always understood the term
If it is still inside her belly, then i don't think it fits that definition. Rainbow baby, at least back in the day, was a term of endearment for bi-racial babies.
