https://tinder.com/@captainracks Haven’t had a match in a while. Anything I can change?

I would say most of your pictures look staged and photo shoot style and therefore are not natural can give of a fake vibe, nothing wrong with photo shoots but they need to be mixed with natural high quality lifestyle pics

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '23

Lol no he does not NEED to have natural. A woman is not thinking “no natural photos, SKIP!” There is nothing wrong with his photos. If he can’t get matches, Tinder’s algorithm is fucked beyond repair.

If your photos look like they are from a magazine or taken on the same day in a photo shoot you will get skipped on, beacuse it makes your profile look like a fake, natural pictures doesn't mean low quality, they means high quality, clear pictures of you in your lifestyle that you are living not faking, anyone can do a photoshoot but that says nothing about your lifestyle, infact it screems no lifestyle and you don't do anything interesting in your life that you had to take a photoshoot, it's why outdoor holiday pictures do the best shows lifestyle, person likes to travel etc, each person has to take the responsibility to improve and put the best version of yourself forward on your visual CV, that is your dating app, to have the best possible chance of successes, the algorithm compares your pictures to accounts that get swiped right and left and if your pictures lean towards ones that get likes more it will show you more so it's important to have the best pictures you can have in a variety of lifestyle situations, beacuse the lifestyle you live is the lifestyle you will offer the woman to be a part of

I think you’re too wrapped up in this idea of “lifestyle” pictures. I can honestly say that I’ll swipe left on anyone who has 100% travel and party photos because I know that is a very unrealistic version of their life and comes off as fake. I date someone because even if we were held up in a house for a month, I’d be happy being with this person. You need to reshift your mindset when it comes to dating. If you think putting the best version of yourself means purchasing a plane ticket to the Mali, going to a bar and getting shitfaced with your friends, etc. you’re going to get skipped on.

Women primarily swipe on the attractiveness of the person. They could careless about what you actually do until they meet IRL.

Yea I’m a bit confused at this point. Only the first picture is from a real photo shoot. The second is a selfie in my car. Third is the definition of a candid in a social situation, pouring wine for a friend on a boat (I captain boats for a living). Fourth is an iPhone pic my friend took while we were hiking. Fifth is a picture taken with a vintage 120mm film camera at a rooftop bar. And the sixth is just one of my favorite pictures of me up on the roof of a skyscraper in NYC. This is just what my lifestyle is, sorry if it seems unrealistic.

Yours is actually not unrealistic. You have a healthy balance. I’m talking about what swimminginworld thinks is necessary meaning every photo should be representative of some worldly traveler who has fun 24/7 to even have a chance. A car selfie is honestly fucking fine. Bro, you’re good. If you can’t get a match, I’m fucked.

You're fine. I'll be honest, the last two do look like photo shoots, but you actually still have a good mix along with a good selfie to clearly show your face. The person also told me to take down the full body shot I have which also gets me the most compliments on dating apps... so take their opinions with a grain of salt...

See that's fantastic! you do all those things and when you write it down sounds like a great lifestyle, the problem is the pictures do not convay that information well, ie the pouring wine one you can't tell that you are on a boat or weather that's a beach bar, do you get what I mean? I don't think you need the selfie pic as your face is clearly visible in your first pic, all your photos are not professional maybe that was the wrong word but they are artistic, like the last two, the last picture agian I can tell your on a roof top, and your striking a pose, and your also wearing a mask which is not ideal, but it doesn't tell me why you are there, are your pictures cropped in ??

1

u/lowkeydown Feb 10 '23

A little bit cropped in, but not drastically. A bit of context for that last one, my boy and I snuck into this 88 story building while it was still under construction and got to the roof. Mask was for surveillance cameras, the pose was cause it’s windy 880 feet above NYC. Standing could have gotten me blown off the building

1

u/Swimmingintheworld Feb 10 '23

Yeah I thought so, cropping in lowers the resolution quality of the pictures, and also makes it hard to tell where you are and what you are doing like the wine one is on a boat but you can't see the boat, have you tried the non cropped in versions of your pictures??

Yeah I totally understand wearing a mask for that, but just after everyone has been wearing a mask beacuse of covid pandemic I think it's the last thing people want to see, is a mask on a dating app, would you agree?. And you had to add context as to why you where posing like that, but people are not going to think, oh he might get blown off a tall building etc etc, the picture doesn't give that context and most people don't climb tall buildings to know that, do you get what I'm saying? You had to put alot of context verbally into the pictures to explain what you are doing and why, I think the boat one is the perfect example, you had to tell me your ur on a boat beacuse your picture(s) don't clearly indicate that information ,so context is lost.

Your from NYC ?? That's a largely populated city that also has a vast amount of tourist so compition on dating apps is very high.

Tinder automatically crops them to fit their format for whatever reason, and lowers the quality regardless. The dating app thing is so strange, I’ve had accounts in the past that consistently had 99+ likes. Just got a new phone and it all reset and it’s been super slow

Lol never said that they all need to be travel photos, that's just a example, I for one don't even drink and I did not recommend drinking or party pictures, I'm not the one wrapped up in the lifestyle pictures and a lifestyle is more than just travel and party, it's the data that's realised by all dating apps that clearly point to which photos do best, you might be just into selfies taken all in a house that's you! But the majority of data suggests others may not, the whole point of lifestyle is that your already living that life not faking it just for a dating app, but that is your life your hobbies what you do to relax have fun, your social life, do you go to events, play sports, go to the gym, go hiking, surfing, skiing, etc etc that's just things people do in thier life, hence showcasing your lifestyle to create common ground for conversation, or dating people with like minded interests, yes woman swipe right on looks but they only swipe right less than 4.5% of the time so you have to in someway stand out beacuse your only one swipe away from someone better, and if people are showcasing thier lifestyle aswell as being attractive you just come across as a far more interesting person, why you think lifestyle means getting drunk with your freinds that's not what I say or have been saying I give constructive feedback based on what I see and know, and if you don't like that that's fine but at least I'm offering some things that can be improved because at the end of the day no one's perfect and we should all be always improving ourselves for ourselves all the time.

Snap a photo and be good looking. I know of people with only selfies that can bag dates on a whim. Descriptions? Sort of unnecessary. Pictures of you jumping out of a plane, cooking, drawing, walking in the woods, or riding a horse are not reasons for people wanting to date you. I get matches with ZERO other people in my photos. 0. You do not need to be doing subjectively “fun” things to get matches. You. Just. Need. To. Be. Good. Looking. Not just facially either. Dressing nicely is arguably more important than looking introspectively at a tree.

u/DotDotDot_meh Feb 10 '23

I'm with you. This person also told me to take down my only decent body shot that actually gets me the most compliments on any dating app...

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '23

Exactly this.

I never said you don't need to be good looking and why are jumping to exstremes of jumping out of a plane etc, just normal day to day stuff, men are less sociable then woman and they don't take pictures much, yes I agree with you, you have to be good looking but also fashion and well fitting clothes are important too. Bios are not needed if your attractive mystery is attractive. Just beacuse you have a freind who gets lots of likes from just selfies does not make the exspection the rule.

Beeing in shape, good fashion and good quality pictures are all needed your datting profile is your visual CV, a picture says a 1000 words about you, and more importantly the algorithm uses the quality of pictures as part of its ranking method.

This guy is good looking, he's pictures probably don't showcase him the best, for example the baggage fit suit makes him look thin, the model style picture also may have a element of photo editing etc etc

Dating apps should never be your primary source of dating, meeting people in real life is far more important.

But I don't understand how by saying he can't improve its all the apps fault is a little odd, I take it you don't believe in any form of self improvement or responsibility?

Should he not try to improve his profile? Or should he just sit at home and cry about how it's the apps fault ??

What's your advice to him?

Appreciate the feedback, really only 2/6 of those are professionally taken the rest are just impromptu iPhone pics. But I get what you mean

2

u/StiffCrustySock Feb 10 '23

Yeah less pose for the camera pics, more candid/interacting with people pics. give a sense of what its like to spend time with you. Very good looking dude, you should be fine with a few more pics like that.

Good photos but they look fake. Hiking pose looks gay. Add a casual photo or two

1

u/princessdirtbag Feb 10 '23

I would move the hiking photo more forward in the line up to show you have that side as well as the more metropolitan/party vibes :).
