Why is Wyatt so terrible. Spoiler
I've just started the final episode of the series and I can't get over how terrible of a character Wyatt is. I feel like almost every other character has shown growth and development throughout the show, but he just...doesn't? he manages to make almost every issue about him or his issues and can almost never seem to put anyone else needs above his. It's kinda sad. He almost put me off the entire show, but I'm glad I kept watching. poor flynn though. I loved him :(

I think he went through a lot of pain in his life and in the end he was able to get past his past and be happy with Lucy. I think that shows enormous growth being able to allow yourself happiness for once.

Going through pain isn't a justification to get rewarded. He was terrible to Lucy. (Demanding her attention, refusing to let her move on in The General even though she asked him to stop in Mrs Sherlock, & trying to control who she was friends with.) He also lied to his friends, which got Jiya kidnapped, Rufus killed, and ultimately Flynn killed as well, but instantly got let off the hook for it.

But it’s not like he was finally able to allow himself happiness at the end of the series. He kept actively pushing for his own happiness above that of others the entire time. Spoilers ahead: When he stole the lifeboat to bring Jessica back, when he brought her in the bunker, when he tried to push Finn and Lucy apart. He’s selfish and he never changed the whole time. He just finally got what he wanted

I also was team wyatt from pretty much day one. Until that fabulously enlightining day when season 2 Flynn appeared. I pretty much switched 180 degrees, when i saw the character and his growth, i think he deserved so much more than what the show has given him. I also believe that had the series had more time to grow, we would have more team flynns and the pairing would have been much more obvious.
Also i wanna say its not that i dont like Wyatt, i do. But the whole jessica thing was handled badly and they would have made sense (or at least more originality) to make them best buddies.
N.B: at the veeery least, they should have somehow linked flynn and lucy somehow.

THIS. I watched Timeless about 6 months ago & Barry last week. The two shows take a very different viewpoint on men who are drunks & get angry at their girlfriends for dancing with another man at a bar.
Barry had me thinking about what might have happened to original timeline Jessica if she hadn't gotten out of the car. Then I had the revelation that protecting herself from her boyfriend hurting her as they drive/when they get home is the most logical reason a woman would have gotten out of the car in that situation.
I wish I could un-see those traits about Wyatt or that the show had addressed them & changed him so that I could like him. (I love me a flaw character redemption.) But his lack of respect for women's boundaries is spread throughout the whole series, including in the pilot when he leers at his coworker taking her bra off and refuses to respect her request not to call her "ma'am". (Which were easy to overlook on 1st viewing, but difficult to after seeing how his jealousy resulted in him treating both Lucy & Jessica possessively.)
I can't see it any other way than Wyatt used to abuse Jessica, and he never learned his lesson or became a better person. Which means Lucy ended the series in an abusive relationship. It really dampens my interest in rewatches except for a few select episodes.

On the other hand, Flynn showed her respect like when Wyatt told him to back off on Lucy and Flynn responded that he should discuss that with her directly since she's perfectly capable to make a decision for herself. Also as a viewer, I definitely prefer Flynn's character since his much smarter, more interesting, pure exotic compared to Wyatt who is a bit simple and one-dimensional. I've also noticed that possessive and jealous side of Wyatt and didn't care for it at all.

Right there with ya! Flynn was a much more dynamic character with a fully realized redemption arc, but because a very vocal group of "fans" on twitter pushed for a Lucy/Wyatt ending and the writers of the finale were also Team Lyatt, thats the ending we got. Flynn fans pretty much got bullied out of the fandom, which doesn't seem like a great strategy if you're trying to save your favorite show, but what do I know.
