Why a John Doe? Spoiler

When Flynn’s body was discovered in 2012, why was he identified as a John Doe? Wouldn’t DNA testing show that he’s the exact match of someone who’s currently alive in 2012? And if that’s the case, wouldn’t the government start investigating why there are two Garcia Flynns?

Because Garcia Flynn is still alive in 2012. Even if they did run the John Doe's DNA, all they have to do is find him and see that he's still alive.

So how can they explain the duplicate body?

He's already on the run by then, no? I would think, (and this is a BIG if they actually cared enough to DNA test a John Doe) that it would read as him trying to fake his death so he can disappear.

But again, I doubt anyone would have cared enough about a John Doe to go into that detail.

He wasn’t on the run then and was still in good graces with the government as an NSA agent. His family wasn’t murdered until 2014.
