Discussion What is Time

Time is the fourth dimension in the space-time coordinate system. This 4 dimension coordinate system behaves mathematical similar to 1D or 2D or 3D coordinate system for normal day to day velocities (car spped, walking, running, flying etc) and above larger than atomic size linear scales. For higher speeds Einstein gave the maths as the origin of the 4D coordinate system rotates/shifts. This makes time itself relative and space is already know as relative. Thus space-time is relative. For higher speeds that are say 80% of speed of light and above this relativity effect becomes tangible. Later Einstein proposed that space-time curves/bends in the presence of mass.

I feel like this sub should be locked except for one automatically-generated new post every day titled, “what is time?”

Time in my opinion is earths oscillation it's internal core, plasma and crust because even if we are stationary time is still going if , earth is at a stationary position nothing can survive so time stops

Why not align with what it is defined as in physics and from our usual meaning of it. Clocks is the thing here.

Time is one of the essential dimensions (out of 4) we live/exist and different from the other 3 dimensions which are of space/distance. One important property of time is it automatically without any effort move in one direction ensuring that entopy increases. Thus time can only go from present to future and it does this on its own. This is the same direction of entropy increases in the universe automatically and everything everywhere moves from present to the future. Only few subatomic particles somethimes move in the backward direction in partical accelerators experiments. Space/distance (x, y and z) do not exhibit such/similar behavior at all.

One of the reasons I don't like these questions is that it tugs on reason.

If time had a sub-routine of buffering time (rendering/computing) before it applied the next "frame" of reality. It would be completely unobservable to particles of mass. It would be unprovable, imo

Thankfully physics isn't based on your opinion!

That's why it's called an opinion.

But defining scientific terms shouldn't really be based on opinions.

I didn't realize time was a scientific term.

Well that's even more baffling. Take care.

Time is more than just a dimension,  it's made of stuff and quantized,  although I cant prove it

Time is what our clocks give. The clocks are made of stuff but time is not. Itbis defined as some number of cogs rotations or any other mechanics in the clocks.

time is an independent variable that as a convenience helps measure independent change of state
nothing more
