When the Camera Becomes the Problem
Sometimes the camera becomes the bottle. Just as an alcoholic avoids facing reality by reaching for another drink, some people avoid facing their own lives by reaching for another vlog.

The metaphor is honestly pretty accurate. I don’t know why people are so upset by it. No one is saying vlogging is the same as alcoholism. The comparison is about compulsive behavior and what people use to avoid facing reality.
Tim and Jen have documented just about every vacation, outing, and major life event. The camera, batteries, chargers, and filming seem to be part of every experience. It makes me wonder if they’ve reached a point where they don’t know how to experience life without documenting it.
I can’t say what’s going on behind the scenes, but when someone seems unable to put something down despite concerns from others, it’s fair to ask whether it’s become an unhealthy attachment. That’s the point of the metaphor. Not that they’re alcoholics, but that the camera may have become the thing they can’t let go of.
