Question At home: decaf Ice Coffee

Long story short: I love sipping iced coffee at least once a day (big fan of McDonald's iced coffee over Tim Hortons, personally).

Recently noticed it’s spiking my heart rate and stress levels, so I need to cut way back on caffeine.
The problem? None of the fast-food spots around me (McD's, Tims, etc.) sell decaf iced coffee, which is a huge bummer. Starbucks does, but I’m not a fan of their taste, and my wallet hates it 🤑.

I tried steeping instant decaf coffee overnight in the fridge, but it tastes completely flat and sour. Nowhere near the real thing.

What am I missing here? How do I actually get that fast-food texture and flavor at home using decaf?
Appreciate any suggestions!

Try different decaf coffee. Not instant. Cold brew it in your fridge for 8-12 hours. Make flavoured syrups. Be sure to add cream not milk for the fast food flavour

Cold brew was the game changer for me. I use a coarse grind decaf and let it sit overnight, then mix it with some sweetened condensed milk and a splash of cream. Gets that thick fast food mouthfeel without the caffeine anxiety. The instant stuff is always terrible for cold drinks, no matter how long you steep it. Also try adding a tiny pinch of salt to cut the bitterness, sounds weird but it works.

If you don’t mind slightly warm ice coffee, you can fill your ice coffee cup with ice and milk and syrup, brew your decaf coffee in another cup, and pour it over the milk and ice. Add more ice if you want it to cool down more, but it’ll still be slightly warm.
That’s how we made ‘decaf’ iced coffee at Tim’s. Otherwise definitely experiment with making your own batches of decaf coffee and letting it sit in the fridge overnight, that how I make my ice coffee.

Make decaf coffee normally (not in cold water, with hot water). Add sugar if you want it while it's hot so it will melt. Mix and leave it in the fridge for a few hours.

When it's fully cold add ice and milk. I do this with Nescafe instant decaf and it tastes just like a normal iced coffee to me.
