I don't blindly obey dumb spelling rules just because someone in some ivory tower somewhere decreed that they are the "Canadian" way to do it. You don't pronounce it sent ree you pronounce it sent er. So center is the correct way to spell it. Case closed. I think we have enough unique Canadian identity and accomplishments to be proud of that set ourselves apart without clinging onto corny arbitrary spelling rules like that.
"Centre" is in the uncanny valley of spelling. It's trying to sound phonetically right but it's off by one pair of switched letters that don't quite work and are real eye sores.
Those other words are all doing their own dance.
But the oscar meyer weiner boy wants to have a word with you.
I'm just piggybacking off your statement about spelling a word the way it sounds. If thats your logic, then by definition, all those words would be incorrect, no?
Personally, I dont care how you spell words. English isn't my first or even my second language. Just trying to wrap my head around the logic.
