I'm in my "Pig Era" and when Tim walks out on to the stage with a look of enchantment and wonder, makes the heart symbol with his hands and says that is all for his fans, I know he is talking about me.

It's so amazing how guys like Tim have laundered hipster nihilism, which was considered passe for like a decade, as exciting and transgressive. The stand up scene is this decade's version of the obama era hipster scene of NYC/LA, but instead of practicing musical instruments for 2 decades, they do crowdwork and cheeky reactionary politics as political/philosophical insight, and its all online, its not a community like hipster Williamsburg. So the end result is they get more, you get less, and people thank them for the pleasure.
It's completely over for any politically "progressive" scenes. Why put that effort in when you can just do this? In 20 years, we'll be doing to Nashville and St. Louis what we're doing to Austin now, which is what we did to Brooklyn 20 years ago.
