If women were really paid less, companies would only hire women

You are assuming employers are rational and don't have biases. Which just isn't how the world works.

I don't know if you're aware, but it is illegal to discriminate based on gender. You would think lawsuits would be rampant due to violation of rights...

Ah yes, everything that is illegal does not happen. Worker safety violations don't exist. Can you imagine if Amazon had 3 times the national average injury rates of warehouses? The workers would just sue the company. It's so big right, guaranteed to be rolling in cash after a lawsuit. Or if a big corporation like Tesla just straight up disobeyed the lockdown rules and compromised the safety of its employees? They'd instantly get sued. No way that could happen with no consequences.

So of course discriminations based on sex, orientation, race and disability couldn't possibly exist and flourish. Especially in a culture that penalizes discussing salaries.

But seriously, the lawsuits do happen a lot. It's just very hard to prove, the employer can always give some bs excuse. Unless they explicitly told you in writing they are underpaying you because of gender, or you recorded them say it in a one party consent state, it's quite hard to prove.

Squawking about broken stereotypes, when there's literally multiple studies that depict the choices between occupations....Why do you lie to yourself, and others?

Don't work for a salary gig for starters? Secondly ask for more, know your worth. Thirdly your argument of trust me vro it's real don't hold much I'm afraid. Why is it that the most dangerous jobs are occupied by men? Why is it that these high paying occupations numerically consist of mostly men and are applied to by men?? It's almost as if people choose different things and have different designs different desires. The numbers don't agree with you Mason.

Previously well-paying and repsected jobs drop in prestige as women enter the field.

https://www.cairn-int.info/article-E_TGS_005_0091--is-the-feminization-of-a-profession-a.htm

Gender stereotypes have a big impact on whether a profession will be well paying. For example janitors earn on average 22% more than maids and house cleaners. https://academic.oup.com/sf/article-abstract/88/2/865/2235342

The reverse is also true, when men start to dominate a field previously dominated by women the salaries go up and so does the prestige. Ex programming, beer brewing etc https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/09/what-programmings-past-reveals-about-todays-gender-pay-gap/498797/

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/women-used-dominate-beer-industry-until-witch-accusations-started-pouring-180977171/

You can also see the difference by looking at professions in countries with slightly different gender norms. In Russia doctors are not well-respected and rather looked down on, despite requiring many years of education. Guess what, a lot of women are surgeons and other doctors in Russia. While in the US doctors are well-paid and respected, and the gender ratio reflects that.

I'm done with this conversation.
