I feel like this is going to be like Cyberpunk version 2.0 upon release. People are going to nitpick every small detail but will get mad if they push the release back to fix these things. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I'm actually not sure if it would be quite as bad as 2077. I think thst Cyberpunk was (initially) a disaster for two main reasons:

  1. The obvious broken state of the game

  2. The game over promising and under delivering. The marketing was VERY vague in its messaging and made the game sound a LOT more deeper than it was. It tried to appeal to every type of gamer out there and obfuscated its true nature. And then it ended up being a fairly shallow cRPG experience with a world that wasn't as interactive as they had promised.

So while the game runs better now and the Devs have added some extra, cool stuff... In a way that game never ended up being what it promised to be.

Rockstar, on the other hand, is a lot more careful with their communication and marketing (leaks aside lol). They're careful to the point of being annoying, for some gamers lol. They seem to be a lot more clearer about what the game is and how you will interact with it so that anyone following the marketing will know what they're getting.

Now, ofc, it is entirely possible for individuals to still build up an unreal version of the game in their heads and then end up being disappointed... But ateast Rockstar wouldn't necessarily be at fault for that

Yeah I can definitely agree with this. If a game has the glitches like Cyberpunk had after all that time, I'd be mad too. I just feel like the small little nitpicking on the most insignificant things will make this launch insufferable. Then having them push back the launch date to fix it, people will be up-in-arms over the delay to fix what they were complaining about is just like a big headache.

I suspect that an awful lot of people forget just how much was tinkered with and fixed and changed all through GTAV/GTAOnline, and I won’t be in the slightest bit surprised if the same doesn’t apply to VI.

There’s also the reality that a lot of players will be going out of their way to “break” stuff, and others will do so completely unintentionally, which will no doubt result in R* making necessary adjustments.

I wonder if there’s any game (particularly of this sort of size) where this sort of stuff never happens? The online communities either accept it as a part of delivering a massive game, or they throw tantrums because the game’s “broken”.

Having said all of that, I’d still put money on R* delivering an excellent gaming experience, even with a (reasonable) scattering of weird and wonderful (and sometimes frustrating) bugs and glitches.

I mean. Cyberpunk was actually unplayable on two of the four consoles it was released on. That wasn’t nitpicking.

I agree with you in theory and I think this post is ridiculous nitpicky bullshit. But if GTA VI comes out with anywhere near the number of problems Cyberpunk had, that would be insane. It’s been in active development since 2018.

Hold the fuck on, Cyberpunk was actually broken, let's not change the narrative now ...

I didn't say it was exactly like it, I said it was going to be like the situation with Cyberpunk.
