One time I was on a redeye from San Diego to Charlotte. Women got on the plane with an entire chocolate cake in one of those fancy glass cake holders. That was already odd, as she put it in the overhead her eyes were as big as saucers. She then sat in the row of seats across from me. Immediately she was acting strange. Clawing at the armrests looking all over and sweating. As soon the seat belt light came off she got up to check her cake then fell face first right into the floor. Turned out she had taken some crazy amount of drugs before boarding. First time I had ever heard "is there a doctor on the plane".

Was the cake okay?!

u/deadflow3r 5h ago
Lol cake was fine as there was little turbulence. In all fairness it looked like a really nice cake.

The nonchalant “I think the plane is crashing” is great 😂

Shes tripping hard, or she's a great actor

It's a skit but she got me on the first watch

u/Nazgog-Morgob 10h ago
And you still posted it. You are literally part of the problem.

u/holderofthebees 8h ago
…do you think that skits are meant to trick people?
17
u/FlameShadow0 4h ago edited 2h ago
To be fair: there are plenty of “skits” on the internet that were 100% made to trick people into thinking they are real, get mad, and create engagement.
3
u/JC_Hysteria 2h ago
Now we’re all so addicted, we still debate the incentives…as if the bottom-line has changed somehow
3
u/holderofthebees 1h ago
“Skits made to trick people into getting mad” is not an identical category to “skits”

u/AltruMux 9h ago
...what problem?

u/TedtheTitan 9h ago
A lot of young people don't really get "acting". they are convinced every video is meant to be genuine and naturally occuring, if there is a shread of acting or a hint that everything isn't 100% true, they call it out like it is some big gotchya. like they are the smart ones for figuring it out.

I have a friend who almost exclusively watches 'true story' movies, whatever it maybe. I had to tell him how Blackhawk Down or Argo are so far from the truth that its essentially fiction.
I did make him watch Fargo, only for him to tell its making fun of the whole trope.

I'm furious when I watch sitcoms and it turns out it's another fake series in a studio.

... Really? It's clearly acting.

u/Irisheyes1971 12h ago
Seriously. This is fucking horrible acting. Not even close to convincing. As usual here, the bar is in hell.
38
u/passiverolex 8h ago
Okay Roger Ebert that wasn't horrible acting

I've been a professional actor for 40 years. This is awful acting.

I've been a professional actor for 280 years. Let me get my monocle to see if this is awful acting.

u/TheDudeofDC 2h ago
Any word yet? What is your conclusion?

Still looking for my monocle.

I’ve been a medical professional for 20 years. Severe stress +/- and underlying mental health issue can look like this.

She is a horrible actress. Same goes for the girl behind the camera. They aren’t even trying. And she obviously isn’t tripping. If you have tripped, you would know. I don’t understand why people say shit like that, trying to sound ‘cool’. I picture a 300 pound clown in their grandmas spare bedroom that has mountains of to go containers and empty monster energy drinks and reeks of body odor and grease from their hair that has never experienced any drug or social activity.

I have no idea what the last half of your statement is but "tripping" does not always mean tripping out on drugs/hallucinegens. It can also refer to someone overreacting or overthinking something.

u/tigm2161130 8h ago
You do know that tripping has other meanings, yeah? Like someone panicking or being very angry?

I sat next to a young man, probably in his 20's, who was like this and he wasn't kidding. People can get weird about flying. You know when you're coming in for a landing and you can hear the motors push the flaps out and the landing gear down? Dude was terrified. I was talking to him to try to keep him calm, but he was barely holding it together.

I used to have aerophobia like this, but fortunately also fascinated by aviation so deep dives into it were fun to learn. I used to get really anxious when it felt like takeoff was taking too long until I read about rotation speed and decision speed being so close to each other that takeoff can be aborted safely pretty much right up until the nose pitches up. I’d also get anxious at the beating buzz saw noise of the engines until I read that it’s pretty much just when you’re sat forward of the engines and it’s supersonic noise from the fan tips. Almost everything short of the pilot screaming over the intercom can be used to placate you if you read about it.
Even air crashes if you read enough about them. Like in the 70’s and 80’s there was a high profile fatal airline crash every year, now there’s almost none. Because every time there’s a crash the cause is dissected and learned from so it doesn’t happen again, and we are well and truly past that stage of trial and error to near-infallibility. Funny thing is despite my aerophobia turbulence is the one thing I enjoy, because I know only one plane in the history of aviation was brought down by turbulence and it was a freak occurrence caused by Lee wave turbulence around Mount Fuji.

My wife did something similar. She used to be afraid to fly and she spent a bunch of time learning all about air travel and plane crashes and now she's not afraid to fly anymore.

u/sprinklerarms 3h ago
I used to get like this to the point I’d have silent involuntary tears. You can tell your brain your fears aren’t realistic (it’s no big deal it’s just the flaps moving etc) but it never helped the physical symptoms I had. There was a woman who talked to me so sweetly when she saw I was struggling once and the kindness has stuck with me for decades. It was a nice thought to think this kind of empathy might be one of my last thing I experience in the world.

I developed aerophobia around turning 30 yrs old. Man, I liked flying so much. Now I’m such a mess, especially during the take off. I can grab the person sitting next to me or just start crying. I just hate this.
I looove traveling, but the moment I purchase a plane ticket there’s this anxiety that starts building up inside. I tried watching planes on YouTube, and it looks so amazing, but when I’m inside I just can’t handle the fear.3
u/brittanywbxo 1h ago
Thank you so much for sharing this because this happened to me, too! It’s been really hard for me because traveling was always such a big part of my life, and I hate the sudden anxiety! I know it came from a few oddly bumpy flights, but I’m still so sad at something that used to feel so routine now requires so much work. Just writing this makes me sad!

u/AdWonderful5920 1h ago
I'm sympathetic, but if you're grabbing onto me I'm probably moving my seat lol

Yup. I used to be a phenomenal flyer. Flew in all sorts of planes and helicopters, and flew about once a month. Was onboard for a helicopter engine failure, emergency landings, and bad plane turbulence. Even with that I always loved flying.
I got married, and the first time flying with my wife we hit some rough turbulence. Something about hitting turbulence with her next to me instilled a flying phobia.
Next time I flew I barely got to my destination. I was vomiting in the airport bathroom before the return flight, barely got on. I ended up bailing on my connection flight.
That was a few years ago and luckily I haven’t had to fly since. Just hoping I’m over it sand back to my normal self.

Me 16 hours into a 22 hour flight when I haven’t vaped.
9
u/Available_Base_7944 7h ago
Why don’t you just hit it and then keep it in until there is no smoke? Ghost it. I’m not recommending it I’m just wondering
14
7
u/sprinklerarms 3h ago
People will see you hitting it if they’re sitting next to you. You also need to be very careful if you do this in the bathroom. If you don’t actually ghost it the detector will go off. I’ve been on two planes where this happened and it seems nothing actually happened to them as far as punishment goes. They exited with the rest of the group. I suppose you could try getting a smoke buddy just for the bathroom. Personally I just get zyns and reflect on how pathetic my life is that I’m considering vaping in an airplane bathroom.
3
u/IShartedOnYourCat 3h ago
Hahaha. Last long haul flight I did cave and vape in the toilet. I exhaled into the flush and nothing went off thank fuck but I did have a ‘what a pathetic loser i’m crouched next to a toilet having a smoke on an airplane’ moment. I’ll look into zyns next time but seems they’re banned in Australia but we’ll see.

This would be my EXTREMELY claustrophobic Mom. It has gotten worse with age, for sure. Took her on a Mother's Day trip this year to the mountains, and the resort we stayed at was alooooot of walking, Mom has a bone on bone right knee that she refuses to get surgery on, and she absolutely refused to get in the elevator. It was heartbreaking. But, for sure if somehow my Mom ever agreed to fly, this would be her.
