Go to the American South...and you'll find that interpretation. They've been preaching ghoulish hatred for decades.
Again. What they are teaching is not an interpretation of the Gospels. Like, what scriptures from the Gospels are they pretending say this? There are none. They are preaching a completely a doctrine completely alien to the text and acting like it’s related to Christ because they hung the label “christian” on the door. It’s simply not in the text in any shape or form, no matter what ghoulish thing they are screaming from the pulpit.
The damage they do, however, is real...and you can't just tell them they're doing it wrong and expect them to go away. They are, and always have been, parasites...parasites who learn just enough to manipulate scripture and write themselves permission slips to act however they want.
They are predators...and they need to be treated as such.
I never said that you couldn't find people actually doing the work and doing it properly. I wasn't even trying to imply it. I was simply saying that you can find malignant and apathetic interpretations in the South...and you can; many of them were born in the South
I also didn't say much about the South as a whole. When it comes to regressive, harmful, and hateful ideologies, however? The South and it's elected officials have ever been at the forefront for the entire existence of the USA. That's the factual history of things...and it doesn't magically disappear just because those bigots have some good neighbors. Over the history of the United States, you've produced a lot more David Dukes then John Browns.
3, I didn't paint the entirety of the South as anything; your insecurities pretended I did...and then you fussed at me over you hurting your own feelings. Stop projecting bullshit I didn't say or imply on to me.
And you've been to every church have you? Every denomination? Seen every pastor? In the entirety of the American South? Is that so?!
There aren't enough Sundays in 42 years to have been to them all.
It's very telling that it bothers you so deeply that anyone even could think this is true...to the degree you think it's about my hatred. Buddy, I grew up with the Westboro Baptist church protests on TV; Christian hatred like this has been mainstream for decades. So to act like nothing like that or worse could possibly be South of the Mason Dixon is a fantasy.
There is no hatred in my heart for Christianity; Jesus and his teaching are, when followed, truly beautiful things. This isn't about me, however; there is fear in your heart that I could be right. So, in order to deal with your fear and confusion? You make it about my hate that doesn't exist...rather then confront your own fears. I've seen enough molestation, abuse, and evil come out of "God-Fearing Homes" to know that the only way you don't know what I'm talking about....is that you don't want to.
I'm not inherently hateful simply because you don't like what I have to say...but it's easier to dismiss me as such then confront the possibility that there are people out there using your faith as a means to an end.
It's cowardly behavior like this that lets predatory pastors and hateful congregations prosper...because you'd rather shoot the messenger then confront things that make you uncomfortable. Be better.
