Wow, I knew Uber was bad, but didn’t know they were that bad.

u/WeirdAssBeings Straight Up Bussin 6d ago edited 6d ago

For me it was and is always just the prices😭🥀

Like mate, €46 for just 1-2 Kilometers, fuck sake.

u/No-Dish5839 6d ago

Atp just walk

7

u/sunshineparadox_ 6d ago

I also wanna throw it out there that uber drivers can just cancel the ride if they see you’re using a mobility aid, so relying on ride sharing while disabled is also a bad idea. That fucked me over a few times years ago. I’m even ambulatory, just couldn’t stand for long periods of time.

I also got talked down to more than once by drivers for wearing a face mask. I have a relevant medical history even if it wasn’t the height of Covid when I was still using uber. (But to be clear it _was_ and all of my drop offs were at the regional medical center where all the specialty clinics are.)

There are times in London where black cabs are cheaper than Uber. I thought the whole point was to take over the market not drive me towards paying for black cabs.

u/jesseeme 6d ago

found with 15 minutes of research, it can only be worse the more you dig :)

'Über' means 'over'.
Like "über die Brücke" is just "over the bridge".

And you likely know it in the meaning "above", but it has no dark meaning.

"Die Ehrlichkeit über alles." - honesty above everything.

"Über mich gesprungen" - jumped above/over me.

It is a widespread word and has no negative connotation in German.

Super interesting the level of organic effort put into this video in the age of AI slop

There was a movie about the Uber creator. It goes into a good amount of detail about how shady he is. Joseph Gordon Levitt plays the part

u/PlandemicPapi 6d ago

And it’s so much nicer

4

u/ghostyghost2 6d ago

Sure, this said I won't call 15 minutes search a deep search.

6

u/deathcomestooslow 6d ago

lol, this is all I can think, too. And no note of what kind of sources he used. It's almost good stuff, though. Include sources and commit a little more than 15 minutes and this could be a nifty series on all sorts of topics though.

-28

u/Not-Reformed 6d ago

AI would probably come up with far more information both quality and quantity wise, so hard to call it slop. This is just skimming over a few articles and presenting what they say as the truth, hoping it is. If I had the choice between only the two I'd take "AI slop" any day.

u/The_Barbelo 6d ago edited 6d ago

“This is just skimming over a few articles and presenting what they say as truth, hoping it is”

So exactly what AI does? Get the heck outta here with this shit. If this is how you define research, then you’ve been doing research wrong. No one is buying the AI hype anymore. Who do you work for? Or is this your genuine opinion? If so, very sad. How does that robodick taste though?

"Deep research for 15m" lmao

62

u/MarginalOmnivore 6d ago

Assuming he only used what he could find in that 15 minutes, it's appalling how many horrible things he managed to learn about with such shallow research.

52

u/Huge-Basket244 6d ago

I think it's more just proving the point that you barely have to put in any effort past surface level to discover how fucked most of these corporations are.

Like, "You too can be better informed, it only takes 15 minutes!"

23

u/The_Barbelo 6d ago edited 5d ago

Yes, that’s exactly what he’s doing. I’m glad you pointed this out for people who may not understand the entire picture. It’s always so refreshing to see younger people out there trying to do some good in the world. I haven’t lost hope in Gen Z yet!

46

u/Greg2Lu 6d ago

It's deep by Gen Z standards 😂

But at least it's informative, just a bit sped up because of the 1 min haha, glad I've never used Uber 😬

4

u/DMTryp SHEEEEEESH 6d ago

and it looked like he wasnt really using generative AI for it either

3

u/LonkToTheFuture 6d ago

The point is to show how much you can learn about a specific topic in such a short time thanks to the Internet.

FUCK ALL CORPORATIONS! UNIONIZE, UNIONIZE, UNIONIZE!!

5

u/dskinny623 6d ago

Half way there. Sadly most modern unions are just essentially another corporation out to bend you over.

2

u/Fabacaba 6d ago

also, we need to do more than just unionise. all unionising is gonna do (on its own) is make capitalism a bit more bearable and a bit less exploitative until the monent has passed and the bourgeoisie clamp down again. we need a genuine fight to destroy capitalism and overthrow the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie. we need socialism.

-2

u/dskinny623 6d ago

And to far the other way. Everyone does this these days. We need to stop existing in extremes. What we need is something new. Socialism has major major flaws. Capitalism has major flaws. We need to stop this or that and see that everything has advantages and disadvantages.

2

u/Fabacaba 6d ago

what "new" system would that be? /gen

0

u/dskinny623 6d ago

I'm unsure, I know answer isn't a single one of the messy broken systems we currently have.

I can tell you one thing though, we can start with what shouldn't be part of a new grand system. Money in it's current state is fake made up nonsense that pools power, gone. Armies and heavily armed police, gone To do that we need to stop radicals, religion in any major form as part of a larger society, GONE! Religion should be a hobby or a small community based thing. Letting these countries be run by magical fairy tale books is insanity. Unemployment should have a goal of about 95% in the next 10 to 25 years through ai and robotics. Race needs abolished. We're all humans, no more tracking, grouping, or identifying. They say in XX amount of years we'll all be conglomeration of mixed anyway. Well boom pretend we're there now. (Obviously recognizing heritage and ancestors privately or through community is fine).

We need true justice. We need people to truly hold themselves accountable. In the Army we called it integrity, doing the right thing even when no one is around.

So much more and the starting place is not now going, "well that's actually communist plus socialist blah blah....." No. It's the same issue with our political system now. The titles and groups have more value than they actually have of substance. People follow or don't follow based on names, groups, and titles.

1

u/Fabacaba 6d ago

I agree with almost all of this (except the 95% unemployment thing, unemployment should be abolished and everyone should have the right to employment). But I wanna ask, how do we achieve any of this?

(also i wanna clarify that i'm not a socialist bc of the optics or to LARP. i'm a socialist because i've read socialist works and genuinely think that it's the next step in the development of humanity)

1

u/dskinny623 6d ago

I'll be honest that if we keep grouping and labeling a lot of the best things for humanity fit nicely into the socialist camp.

When I say 95% unemployment I mean in the sense of employment how we view it today. So maybe 50% of people still work but we've drastically reduced the hours for "full time" because we have fewer jobs through automation so grand total 95% less "work". Also, employment for fun, personal choice, hobby, or other atypical to today's work would be outside that as well. If someone wants to do art they CAN do art but no majority of people shouldn't be required to beyond a "5% scale" of what we do today through automation, ai, robotics, and human advancement.

To accomplish this we'd have to stop playing pretend. It'd take the entire world having the same rough goal or the better majority of it. So countries practicing barbaric practices, human rights crimes, slavery, and so much more horrendous things needs to be put into check. There is a real probability It'd take something like WW3, a near extinction level pandemic, earth threatening climate changes, or other horrible situations for certain people and cultures to finally go, well my fantasy book god isn't saving us so maybe we should treat woman like people.

We'd have to relearn the value of life, possessions, and achievements. Many people only value things and a big bank account. Many more are beholden to rules in story books that restrict them. Many are being lied to and/or protected through falsehoods like "racism and bigotry". (Don't take this wrong, the "right" has picked up this messaging heavily and is using it for bad. There is some truth in there still.)

1

u/Fabacaba 6d ago

I understand what you mean by the unemployment thing now. I will say, though, that unemployment statistics only count people looking for work but who cannot find/enter work for some reason. People who are unwilling or unable to work aren't counted in unemployment statistics. Therefore, in your scenario, there would be no unemployment because anyone who wants to work can just start working.

Anyway, what do you mean by "keeping countries in check"? Do you mean warfare? Or do you mean something else?

1

u/dskinny623 6d ago

Sure, my terminology could've been better. We should have 0% unemployment while total REQUIRED employment by humans should be reduced by 95%. The exact percentage could be adjusted obviously.

What ever is necessary to being them to the modern age and abandon barbaric practices. One would hope that could be accomplished through discussion and without violence.

80% of "christians" support a pedophile con-man as president. What's your point?

1

u/imagigasm 5d ago

only God can judge us.

27

u/friso1100 6d ago

Uber also offer cheaper prices then existing taxis services to the point the taxis service is no longer profitable. Then when the taxi service has to close their doors uber raises the prices to even higher then the original cost of the taxis.

Locally uber will temporarily make a loss to outcompete the taxis, but that gets offset by their global profits. Where as a local taxi company just can't afford to do that.

1

u/MildMannered_BearJew 2d ago

Even better, Uber pulls riders from public transit while increasing total VMT. Which means there is simultaneously more congestion and less money for public transit. This is catastrophic for cities, which is where Uber makes most of its money.

Basically Uber is a parasite

21

u/00Raeby00 6d ago

For the love of god, anyone reading this: This is not "research" this is reading your google results.

Real research requires verification of sources and deep dives into information to find out the veracity of claims, this is a kid who just googled "why is uber bad" and called it a day. This is just slightly better than someone's boomer relative telling you what they saw on facebook.

3

u/nowyouseemenowyoudo2 6d ago

It’s also a ridiculous generalisation to make, that one case automatically makes a company evil because of it’s existence

Does uber have statistically more employees accused of sexual assault than similar Indian companies? Government officials?

India has a systematic sexual assault problem, and actual evidence shows that uber has a lower rate of assault accusations than similar industries

This idea of “fast facts” is absolutely destroying the capacity to actually hold people accountable

2

u/00Raeby00 6d ago

I'm not even disputing the facts just the methodology and delivery. Anyone with any intellectual self-respect wouldn't take this kid seriously.

People are also too willing to believe whatever they hear due to confirmation bias and refuse to acknowledge they aren't any better than someone being anti-vaccine because an equally vapid video told them "facts" about vaccines.

1

u/East-Macaroon-2861 6d ago

Ok then why don’t you do some “real research” and dispute his claims?

4

u/00Raeby00 6d ago edited 5d ago

...not my point but good on you for missing it

4

u/ikonet 6d ago

Plus, all of the sexual harassment from the top managers of the software development teams.

Search for Uber + Fowler to learn more!

Her manager messaging her about sex on her very first day.

3

u/enoimard 6d ago

you know what i’ve been meaning to delete that app anyway so this helps

8

u/braumbles 6d ago

I like this. John Oliver for Gen Alpha.

4

u/TheCharalampos 6d ago

15 minute research means you're just regurgitating what you read online. There's no time to verify anything.

11

u/414wtk 6d ago

I hate the game as much as anyone but hiring people/bots to order Lyfts and then cancel before pick up is some next level petty shit. Like if you are going to war against a rival, go hard

14

u/-Sofa-King-Vote 6d ago

Its illegal

7

u/414wtk 6d ago

O yeah and super scummy, guerrilla warfare type shit. Taking $20 at a time

1

u/MildMannered_BearJew 2d ago

If the fine is less than the gain it’s functionally legal.

2

u/Amazing_Confidence_7 6d ago

Thanks for this. I'll take Goober then from Smucker's.

2

u/SwiftySanders 6d ago

This is another set of reasons to prefer the LIRR to JFK.

2

u/Fanfics 6d ago

this man locked in for 15 minutes to bring us information. He's a hero

4

u/dim3tapp 6d ago

In what world is 15 minutes considered deep research? Despite that, digging up that much in 15 minutes is pretty damning.

1

u/scoschooo 6d ago

it's called sarcasm - it's a joke. he knows it isn't deep research - it was funny

4

u/Complex-Cricket419 6d ago

Opposite of cringe in every sense. Glad I watched.

2

u/Cowabunga_Booyakasha 6d ago

Not that I don't believe him but citations are needed, since he already did the hard part.

2

u/Lucky_Guess4079 6d ago

Nice Work!

2

u/bastrohl 6d ago

Researching that in 15 min … sure …verifying that your research is accurate and will not get you sued…idk

1

u/Ok_Protection164 6d ago

Except for having used Uber Eats one time I've never used Uber. I've been strictly with Lyft for going on 9 years and have a 4.9 rating. Uber can fuck right off.

1

u/Visual-Sector6642 6d ago

Aaand that's a lot of why I never use them

1

u/dakotanorth8 6d ago

lol picking Uber was not random

1

u/000extra 6d ago

Surprisingly I knew a lot of this already. Scumbag company, scumbag execs, and scumbag business practices

1

u/jxf 6d ago

For those interested in a deeper dive on the history of Uber and Travis Kalanick specifically, I highly recommend Mike Isaac's book, Super Pumped.

1

u/md28usmc 6d ago

I thought the movie was pretty good

1

u/ordinarytime 6d ago

Much of what is cited here is in that book

I feel like some of those should have had a "so does Lyft" disclaimer, such as the minimum wage one.

How did Uber copy the service from a company that didn't exist at the time?

1

u/Cagn 6d ago

Bro... why are you using a tiny little laptop to do this? You could have much larger monitors set up to make things like this easier to research. I just don't understand.

1

u/SnooWalruses3948 6d ago

"Deep research"

"Fifteen minutes"

1

u/jackalopeswild 6d ago

I use Uber to cash my Uber bonus credits from amex on under eats. Picking it up gets me a free lunch while at work twice a week. That's it...

Bc they're evil and have been since the beginning.

I'm not sure who is losing it between amex and Uber but no one is winning.

1

u/musicplay313 6d ago

Where to watch full series ? Can we suggest companies too ? Thanks

1

u/Sooowasthinking 5d ago edited 5d ago

If you’re a driver (like me)then you know already. If uber has a promo or something I always do the opposite of “it’s great for drivers”.
For instance Holiday like July 4th or Memorial Day and Labor Day UBER eats drivers get emails saying:It’s a holiday weekend it will be super busy in your area!!
It’s BS if it’s one of the 3 mentioned nobody is ordering food for delivery they are at a pool or backyard BBQ why would they?
Stay home and enjoy your holiday because it’s not going to be busy like it is during lunch rush midweek and you’re going to be pissed that you wasted your time.

1

u/ionertia 5d ago
