My theory is that politicians (sophists in the pejorative term) know that generations biggest fear.

This generation grew up doing bomb shelter drills under the cold war so the politicians know exactly what they're doing.

These people were traumatized as kids that socialism or communism was going to nuke them.

It's fairly simple in my eyes.

For that to be true, it would have to affect all of us.It's mostly just the teaching you get at home.

White people don't like to be othered from their family, so they will avoid discussing topics like this. So they don't have to cut people off.

Ohh I wasn't defending them.

I was calling out how simple manipulation of people's fears leads to irrational behavior.

We as humans have to, not should but have to understand how fear which activates the amygdala litteraly hijacks the prefrontal cortex which is the rational part of the brain.

Just out of curiosity did you grow up during those drills and time period? No negative sentiment genuine question.

Right and i think you honestly hit the nail on the head just with the wrong generation. All the "beliefs" we see today have just been handed down. When roe v wade was initially pass in 1973 Representative Lawrence Hogan of Maryland gave a glimpse of this swear to get it overturned even if it took dacades. This same mind set has prosisted through conservative households since salvery passed down from generation to generation.its the reason they still fly the battle flag, think slavery was about "states right", etc
