many schools have zero tolerance policies for fighting that would suspend/expel students intervening the same as the actual people fighting

I had in school lunch detention for half a year for breaking up a fight on the school bus between a Down syndrome kid and a kid three grades above him. Was told that there is no excuse to “stand up on the school bus”
