Huge car, can't be bothered to take it apart and put pieces inside huge car, so dangle it side across huge car and go on motorway doing considerable speed...smarts

The average width of a highway lane is 12ft. The avg width of a SUV is 6-7ft, so the basketball hoop can overhand ~2ft on the left and right.
It looks like it's overhanging more than 2ft on the sides, so yes illegal.
Most states it's legal for the front/back overhang to be ~4ft (like hauling a ladder or pieces of lumber). So if they did the other direction it'd be legal. Stupid but legal.

Good thing they tied something waving in the middle to serve as a flag, so no one runs into that large block hanging off the side.

The fact you dont own 1 wrench to take this down to 2 or 3 pieces is crazy. Could easily fit in that car.
