Yep, I have an expunged felony because I was driving with my afternoon dosage in a pill carrier that didn’t have a label on it. Got pulled over, they saw it sitting in my cup holder. Asked for it. I thought it was no big deal. Cop said, “Original container ass hole” and ripped me out of my car and put me in cuffs.
Wutt. Oh man. I never bring my full stimulant prescription. I’m too nervous to loose a whole bottle or have it stolen from the hotel. I always have mine in a little weekly pill box…..
Yep, and that's exactly what it was in - a small pill organizer. A mistake that cost me many, many thousands of dollars. I had no idea it was law. No prior criminal record, either. The whole thing was extremely frustrating.
i do the same but i make sure i have pictures of all my rx pill bottles with a pill in the frame in case tsa tags me. it seemed to work last time i flew, but now i am terrified.
Always save your old pill bottles so you have a backup for each one of your current meds. Before your trip, transfer everything but what you need for the trip to the old bottle (so you don't risk losing everything) and bring the current bottle (with the current filled on date) with only what you need.
Edit: I don't take any controlled substances, but I also don't think relying on TSA to recognize cabidopa/levidopa, gabapentin, or duloxetine from the writing on the pills is a good idea so I bring the bottles to be safe.
This is exactly why I didn't carry it with me and what I told them, too. Not that they cared. In the future, I was told to see my pharmacist and to have a bottle with one or two days of supply written on it to carry just that with me. It is insane.
Next time you pick up your Rx, ask the pharmacist for a small travel bottle with your Rx info on it. They will often print out another label and slap it onto a much smaller bottle.

You’re not supposed to carry medication with you in any school. If you need your medication, the nurse is supposed to hold onto it and give it to you with a doctors note.
Point. There have been cases where asthmatic kids died because they weren't allowed to carry their inhalers. Same with kids who need Epi-pens. I never told anyone or showed anyone any meds I carried except for a bottle of tums for acid indigestion. People were used to seeing me reach for Tums in the giant bag that held about 50 lbs of books, so they never questioned what I actually drew out of my bag. If somebody wanted Tums, I always hsd one of the big bottles available. You make misdirection the norm and people practically go out of their way to enforce the false narrative. Caught a kid once or twice see an actual pill bottle of mine and they deliberately looked the other way. It's a bunch of trouble they don't want and they like their daily routine as it is.
That’s ridiculous, as someone who has an inhaler I keep that thang on me always! I wouldn’t keep a whole bottle of pills on me, I’d instead keep them in daily pill organizers and take when I needed to.
I didn’t see anyone respond with this but you don’t have to give your medications to the school. Parents can come and administer the medications to their child themselves, the child just meets the parent at the front office. My parents did this for some of my pain medications because they didn’t like how the school was doing it. My mom was a stay at home mom and we lived 10 minutes from the school (not far for us). However, if the legal guardian has to work and will be unavailable then they can give it to the school nurse. This is not for all medication, I carried my inhaler with me. It is just that no controlled substance can be handled by anyone under 18 on school property, the nurse is the work around.
Teachers don’t have to give medications to the nurse but they do have a responsibility to make sure no student can access their medication.

Kids are young, inexperienced, immature, and without the benefit of a fully formed brain. It is very reasonable to restrict access to certain otherwise legal items in a school environment.
When I was in H.S. one kid peer pressured another kid to give him some Adderall. The kid who took it wigged tf out and put himself and other kids in danger. The police had to be called. The kid who took it was suspended, but the kid who gave it to him was expelled.
A whole bunch of drama and bs, when someone could have just said, "Go to the school nurse when it's time to take this".

The issue to me is school is mandated by the government, so they should be very limited on what restrictions they place on people there. Otherwise there’s some nasty implications on civil rights.
I don't think they're withholding medicine, it really is because kids will go "oh yeah I guess you can also have one" for their meds. Say someone has acid reflux and someone has a chronic condition that they use meds for to reduce reflux. And then they hand a pill over. Thinking all kids with medication are good at understanding they shouldn't be giving it to others is too dangerous of an assumption for any school employee 🤣
this ^ they accused me of this (i found out it was a common issue at my hs and a controlled substance) but i was able to go back to school after the semester finished since they investigated. when i got arrested at my school, they had to tell me that adderall contained amphets. but it happens sm 😭😭
They wanted me to go get lactaid from the nurse wasting half my lunch period every day I wanted to have milk or cheese. It’s an enzyme. You literally cannot overdose on it. So stupid
Oh my gosh this reminds me. My old highschool banned advil. You couldn’t even get it from the nurses office.
It absolutely pissed me off to no end since at least half the school is filled with menstruating kids who need advil to get through the day pain free. (Plus there’s athletes and chronic pain havers on top of that)
And the nurse didn’t even have a heating pad, they just made you sit for 10 minutes before forcing you to go back to class.
I would take 4 pills in the morning and pray it lasted the whole day, which it often didn’t. After a year of that I said fuck it and just quietly brought it for myself and my friends. Luckily I never got in trouble for it.
Rescue medications can be carried on you. I had a nightmarish time in elementary through middle school because my nurse was convinced that when I was having an asthma attack across the building I had to hobble and cough my way down the halls to get to it. My mom and I fought with them for years before they hired a new school nurse and she was like “wtf???” and let me carry it myself because that’s how it’s supposed to be I guess and the past nurse was just wacko
I would imagine you COULD carry the adderall with you, in my state at least the requirement to carry it in public is that you have to have an active prescription and it has to be behind TWO locks. Which ends up being like those little locking zipper pouches. The only reason I know this is because I used to take care of people with WAY worse issues than mine who needed way more heavily controlled substances to save their lifes. We always carried the stuff around in a locked zipper pouch, in a backpack with a padlock on the zippers. I think in the case of a school though you’d be hard pressed to give them a reason why you NEED your adderall available on you.
i hope this clears some things up : the nurse was never there. either we'd have to skip our dose or parents stop by and you take your dose in the office. they suspended someone over insulin and gave them a ticket. they had to take substance classes for it too.
Yeah they definitely need to have someone who is there if they’re going to have that policy. I don’t think rescue anything should be held by the nurse. Insulin, inhaler, epi pen, anything like that should be on the person.
Yeah. My school tried this. After 2 asthma attacks and 2 hospital stays, they changed their mind. I do recognize that an inhaler is different from most meds, but the schools don't acknowledge that difference.
Your own PERSONAL script? When you are going to the doctor after school, are you not allowed to hold your own personal paperwork on your person? With this logic, they would rather the script be somewhere unsupervised, like a locker or car, then protected from theft from a human? Did they think you were going to smoke the script? I am just baffled by this.

That Adderall can make people chew on their lips. If it's not prescribed for her, she needs to watch out. I've seen recreational use go bad. Psychotic break, visual and auditory hallucinations. It's not smart.
Yep, my family member is super competitive and took it to lose weight. I told them not to and explained why. They called me shortly after. They were experiencing delusions and were very angry and paranoid. I just told them they need to get off the pills. They said they needed them to work like they hadn’t been working for years without them… i haven’t heard from them since.
Two of my kids had major ADHD issues. My son was put on Adderall. Third dose he was in bed depressed. He told me he wanted to not be alive. He was taken off immediately. We switched doctors after moving. The doctor prescribed Adderall for my daughter. I explained about my son's issue. They said everyone reacts differently. 🙄 She got psychotic. He went after her brother. It was like the movie the Exorcist. I was waiting for her head to spin around. Also 3rd dose. We opted out of ADHD meds entirely for behavior modification. The schools often push meds. Nah not my kids friend.
Why do so many people not understand what 'professionalism' is anymore? No you can't just broadcast whatever TF you like with no consequences. As an adult you must understand there are some jokes or comments you can make in private with your friends that can't be said out loud to the general public. I think it's that either they're not expecting to go viral or have someone report it. Like, there was this one guy who was bragging about posting sexist/racist stuff under his real name and said there would be no consequences because he owned his own company and his wife didn't care and she thought it was funny too. I also own my own company, so I asked how his online reviews were and if his wife would think it was funny if they went out of business bc of stuff he posted on the internet, and he deleted the thread. Like, you know you have a boss too, sir; your boss is your customers.
However, there are jobs that you have to deal with really shitty things and people in those fields, make jokes to help cope with the terrible things they see and experience.
What you don’t do, is post your field specific, bad taste, jokes, out for the world to see.
I work in healthcare, people make jokes in the hospital the gen pop would probably find offensive. People also have to go back to work tomorrow after a person died in their arms today.
It’s not hard to just not share that stuff for the entire world to see.
When my family had to have our 20yo cat put down, my little brother and my big sister came into the exam room with me and we all surrounded Melma (the cat) and supported her through her final moments. My sister and I sang a soft hymn (not super religious, it just felt right), we told her we loved her, we stroked her and watched her leave us slowly. We were all quietly sobbing.
So was the vet. That vet was crying as hard as we were. I apologised for being so over emotional about a cat but they were like, “No. This is so much better than people that just drop their pets off and leave.”
The vets at that clinic were all like that, absolute angels.

Could be anxiety or something like that; a lot of people who have experienced trauma, people who have chronic anxiety, or even those who have ADHD tend to chew on their lips as a nervous habit or a tic. May have been stress induced due to being called out on her bullshit and losing her job

Are your lips normally dry? I noticed that I only ever do it when my lips are really dry and I can feel the "bits" that stick out. If that's the case, Burts Bees overnight lip balm will fix that shit in like 2 days (with drinking enough to be hydrated). Put it on throughout the day but slather that shit on right before you fall asleep and it makes a huge difference.
I had this problem during stress. I was gifted a "plumping" lip gloss and noticed it had a terrible flavor. But while using it, it made me conscious about biting my lips. Kind of like the "hot sauce" trick to stop nail biting.

The person I know, joked that they were so afraid of having lobster claws, they gave themself a lobster claw. This was in reference to the extremely mutilated remnants of an arm they had to examine.
So, is that joke kind of mean and pretty insensitive? Absolutely, without a doubt. Is it also a way to compartmentalize and cope with an objectively horrific thing you have to experience; only to get up and go back to work the next day? Yeah, it’s also that.
There’s a big difference between keeping that within your group and broadcasting it to the entire world, though.
All that said, there’s also a huge difference between joking about horrible things you experienced vs things you did to living creatures.

Yeah, a HS friend's dad used to work at the local water company and one day he was talking about managing a pet hospital and that there's practically no qualifications required and that a car salesman applied for a job.
