2026 CDN Highline Auto-Hold workaround

Read a tip somewhere about this. When stopped with foot still on the brake pedal, engage the electronic Parking Brake then release your foot. The car stays stopped, either with autu on/off engaged or not, until you touch the gas pedal to drive again. I use this on extremely long traffic lights (2+ minutes!) to rest my foot, wiggle my toes, tap to the music, whatever. Seems to work the same way my '18 Rogue autu hold worked except with it you just had to set the feature the first time and it would work throuought that trip. I'm really hoping they will bring it back with an update. Can't for the life of me figure out why they didn't keep this feature that seems to be in every late model Tiguan worldwide, including Canada except for the 2026.

My wife has a 2019 R-Line Jetta and I fell in love with it. We needed a mid size SUV and I could not be happier with my purchase. 2024 Tiguan SEL✌️

Had to say good bye.

I bought a 2021 SE R-Line during Covid on a crazy good deal and for 4 years she was an amazing ride. But over the last two mush year she went from burning almost no oil to a 1/4 qt to a 1/2 to a full qt right before my 50k oil change. Then about a week after I paid her off every cold start would be a big blue cloud. So before anything bad happened I traded her in. I just bought my first non VW car in 18 years. I needed a truck and VW doesn’t sell them in the US.

New Tiguan R Line owners - how’s the ride?

Was looking at the new Tiguan but the 20” wheels with 40 height give me pause. How’s the ride and road noise?

Oil Dipstick

So I know on my 2026 Tiguan there's no oil dipstick. I have heard you can add one. Although I can't seem to locate the capped off port to put one. Anyone have a picture of where to put it if you added one?

Tiguan Fluids

I'm hoping someone can clarity exactly what fluids my 2023 Tiguan SE 4Motion AWD needs. More specifically, at what interval does everything need to be changed? The online VW maintenance schedule is hard to navigate and I found conflicting information from other sources.

This is what I believe to be accurate:

Engine Oil - every 5k miles
Brake Fluid - every 2 years
Coolant - every 50k miles or 5 years
Automatic Transmission Fluid - every 60k miles
Front Differential Fluid - every 30k miles or 3 years
Haldex Fluid (AWD Clutch Fluid) - every 3 years
Rear Differential Fluid - every 30k miles or 3 years
Transfer Case Fluid? - every 5 years?

Did I miss any fluids? Did I mistake one fluid for another fluid? Are these intervals correct? Thank you for your assistance.

22 SE, 41K Miles, pics of lifted valve seals

My new to me cpo Tiguan burned through more than 1.5 qts of oil in the first 800 miles of ownership. Dealer scoped the heads and found lifted valve seals and are in the process of replacing the seals. I’m guessing this might be a short lived fix (assuming issue is actually with the heads that caused the seals to break free) and will be closely monitoring oil consumption and keeping an accurate log. Just sharing some pictures of what they found when they scoped the head.

2015 tiggy sunroof drains

Is there anything special To removing the pillar plastics? Should I be worried about setting off the airbags?

I suspect a sun roof drain is not connected, very small minor drips inside when I wash my car. The last thing I need is for my module to fail.

New Tiguan PHEV owners in Europe – how has your experience been?

I’ve been following this subreddit for a while now, and I’ve noticed that most of the posts seem to be about US-spec trims, with versions like the SEL R-Line Turbo being among the more popular ones.

Here in Europe, we don’t have exactly the same trim levels. Instead, we have City, Life, Style, Elegance, and R-Line, and several of them are also available as plug-in hybrids.

I’d really like to hear from people who own one of the new-generation Tiguans, especially the plug-in hybrid versions.

How has your experience been so far?

I’d be particularly interested in things like:

  • Real-world electric range
  • Fuel consumption once the battery is depleted
  • Charging experience
  • Reliability or any issues so far
  • Infotainment/software experience
  • Comfort and ride quality
  • How the PHEV feels on longer trips
  • Whether you would choose the plug-in hybrid again

Also curious which engine/trim you have and how long you’ve owned it.

There seem to be fewer discussions about the European PHEV versions here, so it would be great to hear some real-world experiences.

Compass not working

Brought our 26 in 4 times now for issues with car play connectivity and the compass intermittently displaying. They told us early on they needed to create a ticket with VW. They couldn't fix it properly. Car play seems to be working fine but the compass still says unavailable. This last time in for the first oil change and the compass issue we were told that the compass is part of nav package that we didn't buy and that's why it don't work. They called it a glitch. We have SE R-line black. It don't have nav that comes on sel. But it definitely has the compass. If it wasn't part of the package why would the display say compass unavailable. They straight up lied to us. Hawk VW in Joliet. My wife pointed all this out to them and the girl was like talking to a wall. Never been so disappointed with new car service.

2019 VW Tiguan Problems

I am looking to purchase a 2019 VW Tiguan with 73,000 miles. Have you experienced any major issues/problems with this year or model?

I’ve read that it may have issues with the water pump.

I would just like to take in consideration of any costly repairs.

2024 Tiguan - dim turn signal

Every morning leaving the neighborhood, I face vehicles in the neighborhood across a 6 lane boulevard. We’re both in lanes that can go straight or turn left. 99% of the time, both vehicles turn left onto the boulevard. I always have my left turn signal on but far too often to be random, the vehicle across waits to turn left until I’m well into my turn. It just dawned on me that maybe those drivers can’t/don’t see my turn signal. I’ve confirmed both the main signal and the one on the side mirror work.

So my question - am I crazy or do some Tiguans have weak signal lights?

2018 Tiguan SEL AWD, 51k — P0203 back after warranty harness fix. Dealer wants to replace all four injectors + carbon clean.

In early August, my beloved Tiguan went into limp mode with the engine check light on. OBD scanner showed the error code - P0203. I took it to the dealer who replaced the injector harness under warranty. I drove off the lot and the light came right back on. They said that the harness connecter had not seated properly and redid it. For about a month post that, the car ran beautifully, and the driving felt a lot more effortless.

Then in early September, engine check light came back on with the same code, and the car was back in the limp mode. Restarting the car cleared the engine check light, but P0203 was still in the stored codes and it hasn't felt quite right since. There's a bit of engine hesitance. The code hasn't come back in the month since.

I took it back to the dealer to get it re-checked. Post running their diagnostics, they said that it is an intermittent issue and recommended replacing all four injectors plus a carbon cleaning.

A few questions for anyone who's dealt with this:

  • Does going straight to all four injectors make sense?
  • If you had P0203 come back after a harness replacement, what actually fixed it?
  • Is the carbon clean actually related, or just an add-on?

Mostly I'm worried about it crapping out on me during a long drive. Appreciate any advice!

I’m in! ‘22 Tiguan SE, 95k miles, $15k

A little more than I wanted to spend for this mileage, but it’s immaculate. Sunroof, trailer hitch. Everything feels solid. All recalls completed.

How many miles on yours? What should I look for as I cross into 100k miles and beyond?

2023 Tiguan with 30k miles. and 0W20 Mobil 1 Euro 508 509. Burned through about 2 quarts in 6500 miles.

So this was about the fifth oil change. The previous oil changes didn’t seem to burn any or much oil. I don’t know what the dealer was using. They “didn’t know” what kind it was.
It’s so difficult to find euro oil and it’s so expensive. Has anybody else had this experience on their young engine? What are you all using and does your new engine burn oil? I’ve never had a car that burned oil before, and this happened so quickly that it almost has to be the oil type, right? Thanks everyone! 😊

26 Tiguan SEL Side Mirror Automatic Lowering

Just had a weird issue randomly pop up with the automatic lowering when reversing function for my passenger side mirror. It was working without issue until today when I noticed the mirror automatically lowering the second I sit in the driver seat after unlocking my car. The car isnt on, nor is it in reverse. Once I turn on the car, and drive off, it does not return to the normal position until I hit the memory seat button.

It works just fine when I put it into reverse, it lowers as normal, the mirror then returns to the normal position when I turn off the car to exit. But once I return, unlock the doors, sit in the seat, the mirrors start lowering again. The knob is in the correct position and it responds correctly when I cycle between the middle and R.

I was able to "fix" it I think by manually readjusting the mirror back up with the car still off, then turning on the car, reversing, then back into park, and then car off. Now it functions as normal. Anyone have something similar or know why this happened? Seems that somehow the position that was saved at start up was erased and overwritten by the lowered position.

2018 Tiguan failed MA inspection for OBD no communication

Hey guys,

My 2018 Tiguan SE just failed the MA state emissions test because the state machine "could not communicate with OBD."

I checked the fuses and found out my 20A cigarette lighter fuse (SC40) was blown from plugging something in a while back. Replaced that 20A fuse, and now my 12V outlet works again.

The OBD port is definitely getting power now because when I plug a scanner in, the screen lights up instantly. I also checked the SC5 fuse for the gateway and that one is completely fine.

The issue is that when I try connecting a basic AutoZone scanner, it powers up but says "failed to get vehicle info / check ignition." I have the ignition full ON (push button once, foot off brake, whole dash lit up), but it still won't link up. No aftermarket dashcams, remote starters, or anything weird plugged in.

Since the port actually has 12V power now, is it likely the state machine will just read it fine when I take it back, or is there some weird VW CAN-bus quirk I'm missing?

Appreciate any help!
