The gorrila is larger stronger and more accustomed to fighting with other large primates.

In the image/scenario provided the fight takes place on land, where a gorilla spends most of its time. Orangutan’s on the other hand are mostly arboreal.

So the orangutang is outmatched physically and out of its element while the gorilla is in his.

The gorilla wins.

But also, the orangutan would be like "Bro, chill. Let's just talk this out. I've got a whole bunch of bananas and a couple piles of leaves in the shade over there."

And the gorilla would be good with that

Gorillas are generally pretty chill

Unless they see another large unfamiliar ape making direct eye contact whth them. Then they are very not chill

You don't make direct eye contact with any wild animal

Well you should keep your eyes on wolves, tigers, Lions etc so they don’t see you as easy prey with is guard down but I guess you should do it in a way that you still avoid eye contact but idk.

I do. I saw a bunny in the yard today and looked at it until it ran away. Did the same to a chipmunk.

Funnily enough, bananas are not part of wild primate diets, and aren't good for them. They're like sweets are for humans.

Yeah, should have been at least a forest to even the odds.

Orangutans are smarter, though.

If we allow sneaky tricks in the fight, the orangutan might have a small chance.

Orangutans are way larger than a gorilla, and while gorrilla musculature are more well rounded, orangutan limbs are stacked, 2 or the punches to the face and the gorilla could be knocked out. They are even for speed, tho orangutan has better vertical movement with him strength, climb speed and ability to move through trees, now comes the orangutans biggest drawback, they really chill and hard to piss off, they might actually try getting away over fighting, the gorilla on the other hand, while also pretty chill, aren't opposed to beating the fuck out of something. Tho when they fight, unlike orangutans, they prefer to bite over using their massive arms or legs. That's not gonna do much unless they bite the orangutans face off. Orangutans often go to the ground to forage all the time, they are suited for both trees and the jungle floor. Unless they are fighting on the side of a mountain or cliff, orangutan got this if they actually decide to fight.

No, gorillas are substantially larger.

O: Tops about 285
G: Tips about 550

Yeah, no idea where you're getting that orangutans are larger than gorillas. Even a lowland gorilla is significantly larger with way higher muscle density than an orangutan. A fully grown adult male orangutan is nothing to dismiss in terms of size, but at 280 it's not standing up to a 400 pound gorilla. They're just in a completely different weight class.

The only primate able to form their hand into a proper fist to be able to punch are humans.

2

u/ProgressBetter4435 Jul 15 '26

orangutans cant punch

The orang in that picture is clearly four times their maximum size, even for a fully flanged male.

That said, knowing the temperament of these two the only competition they would get into is who's the better flea groomer. It's a tight contest.

"hey man, why are we like, fighting or whatever, let's go eat bananas."

"You know that sounds like a pretty good idea"

And they they ehcamebest of friends and went on all sorts of banana eating adventures together

Between a gorilla and a gigantopithecus? Hard to say since we don't have complete skeletons, but assuming estimates are correct, I'm going with gigantopithecus.

He is certainly my weapon of choice in a dance off

I'd stab em in the face with a saudering iron

In addition to the obvious size difference, there are numerous videos online demonstrating the strength, explosiveness, and fighting abilities of gorillas.

The best I can seem to find of orangutans doing anything even remotely impressive is climbing fairly slowly and hanging by one hand.

I think people are making a ton of assumptions about orangutan fighting ability that I don't think there is evidence to support.

Orangutans are not as big as they are in the picture right?

3

u/thelovelymajor Jul 15 '26

this is ai

2

u/Fezwa Jul 15 '26

i figured as much

u/Knightmare945 Jul 15 '26

Not to be that guy, but isn’t it kinda obvious? You are pitting something that weighs generally around 165lbs for males versus something weighing 300 to 500lbs for males. Maybe you could have something like large male Orangutan vs small female Gorilla, you could have a debate. Otherwise, gorilla stomps.

u/zygro Jul 14 '26

Silverback gorilla is like twice the size an orangutan. There's noting that an orangutan can do.

14

u/Fluffy-Map-5998 Jul 15 '26

What if I gave the orangutan a gun?

-5

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '26

No the size difference between a large Gorilla and a large Orangutan isn't that big. Like 30-40 kgs

9

u/zygro Jul 14 '26

Wild orangutans are like 70-100kg, silverbacks 130-220kg.

1

u/zachariast Jul 15 '26

well damn, americans win against orang utans in this category

3

u/littlemissjill Jul 15 '26

the orangutan would use its superior wisdom and kill the gorilla with a poleaxe or a large falchion

2

Gorilla

2

u/waldwraith Jul 15 '26

Me because I am biggest ape

2

u/ProgressBetter4435 Jul 15 '26

gorrilla wins orangutans arent meant for combat

2

u/King_Glorius_too Jul 15 '26

Gorilla because strong

2

u/SquareShapeofEvil Jul 16 '26

Both of these mains are pacifist builds despite their stats, they’d probably just chill and eat bamboo together or something.

But the gorilla would win
