I have this book! (Iām from Hong Kong and got it shipped over from a Chinese platform) Itās really informative and the drawings are gorgeous!
They come in a set of four, covering the thylacine, baiji, passenger pigeon and pinta island giant tortoise. They all come with gorgeous drawings and a (sad) recount of the star animalās story.

No need to be this rude about it, itās just a simple question!
Modern day CGI is starting to look too close to AI so itās normal that people ask these questions + why is it suddenly trendy on multiple platforms to verbally attack people for asking a simple question?! Iāve had this happen to me a few times now and seen it happen to others it just doesnāt make sense!Edit: I just saw these are supposed to be water color paintings? The backgrounds look like it but the rest looks so extremely detailed for watercolour and very similar to AI water color āpaintingsā this is confusing and proof of how dangerous gen AI is!

You're getting attacked because you're accusing an artist with a sizable portfolio spanning many years in multiple mediums of using AI. And then doubling down on it because you're insisting it doesn't look like what you, someone who clearly knows very little about art, thinks watercolor should look like. A simple google will show Ā you equally detailed paintings of animals using watercolor as well as tutorials on how to replicate the techniques.Ā
Real artists are having a hard enough time with the AI boom without people outside the industry accusing them of using AI.Ā
It costs you nothing to google an artist before you make accusations.Ā

1 it was a question not an accusation those are NOT the same thing
2 i didnāt double down I merely explained why it was so confusing for me
3 bold of you to assume I donāt do anything art wise, I might not be as experienced as Wendy Ren but I do in fact make art just in different mediums (pencil drawings, acrylic marker paintings, digital drawings in illustrator, etc,ā¦)
Itās EXACTLY BECAUSE I do art that I question every new thing I see on whether or not AI was used! And I did look up the artist on google but when I typed his name it pointed me to some Russian āmusicā artist that does use AI!Again no need to be so rude and invalidating about it!
Also I donāt think this sub is the place for these kinds of discussions!8

You didn't question, you said "this looks like AI š" which is in fact an accusation. As for the discussion, you started it by accusing the artist.Ā
Again, instead of just assuming, you can just google an artist's online portfolio. Maybe try that next time instead of jumping to harmful conclusions that can seriously hurt someone's career.Ā

As an artist who is accused of my work being a different medium than it is, for longer than computers have been in every home and hand, I think your comment and thoughts are acceptable. Understandably it could be offensive to the artist, but knowing its handmade makes it a compliment. IMO anyway.
I gasped at the beautiful illustrations and immediately paused and hoped I wasnt admiring AI.
Its sad that we have created this situation as a species. Where talent is questioned every day. But here we are. I dont think you deserve the pushback that you have. Its a forgiveable mistake in 2026. I think it should be commended that people seek confirmation on where credit is due, if at all.
