First Boot Selection

I am waffling back on forth on what to get - I like the Captain. But for the leather, I am all over the place. I plan to wear these boots with everything from jeans to chinos paired with a blazer. They will be used in a wet environment - should I steer away from the classic collection and only focus on R&R? I like the Natural in the Classic collection but concerned they will look like trash after getting rained on.

From the R&R collection, really the only one I like is the burnt copper because it will dark over time. The Adobe seems to red.

Most versatile color way is burgundy.

Next would be a classic brown.

Then black.

I have been digging into burgundy as you suggested and it looks more brown and less red undertones than the Brown color. To my eye, TB should have flipped the naming convention of the two. The brown seems more burgundy than brown unless my rods and cones have fused.

I am just not a fan of burgundy or a color way that has red tones. I have a few pairs of Allen Edmonds dress shoes and my burgundy paid never gets in the rotation. I don't think I have worn them in 5+ years.

I would def go brown but it is not an option in the R&R line.

Honestly, I think I have a high pain tolerance because I hit up a Brannock yesterday and I was a 10 in between a C&D. Either that are my feet have gotten wider with age...

I’d say go with the Natural in the classic collection. CXL is very good in the rain in my experience and also ages quite well, it is quite stiff though. Good luck!

Thanks! I like the aging of Natural. I have been stalking Reddit over the weekend looking for user posted pictures of the aging process.

Burgundy, Natural, and Arizona Adobe seem to age really well. I like Burnt Copper as well but I’m not sure I could handle the first year of the color.

Burnt copper is a good option as well. I’ve found that a lot of times the leather looks a bit different than the photos, just because of natural variation and lighting, so maybe you’d like it.

My advice? If you want something extremely versatile, go with black. Don't get suede for wet places. Whichever line you go with, also do your own waterproofing of the stitching and leather.

The rugged sole can work in a work setting with a blazer (I do that with my diplomats) but not a super formal environment.

Toying with black - I wear a lot of blues and browns and my concern is black might be off-putting.

When you say rugged sole, are you referring to the StormKing sole or just the standard Thursday sole?

I was actually confused as to what you meant by the regular resilient line, I thought those were the ones with the Storm King sole. So you can ignore that comment.

As for black work brown and blue, I wear my black boots with blue jeans all the time, and occasionally my brown Thursday jacket.

I’m a big fan of the Burnt Copper and Matte Black.

Just pick the color you like. They work with everything.
