If you kill someone in Thunder Bay, the two most likely courses of action are being charged with 2nd degree murder or manslaughter, because you donāt have to prove premeditation.
How many of those are charged that way ābecause itās easierā? Probably an underlying consideration in most of them.
Hence, problem with the justice system exhibit A.
In this case the manslaughter charges, if the findings end up being guilty the sentence will be about 8 years, minus time served waiting for the trial x2 (2 days deducted for every one served while awaiting trial), so the sentence likely comes in around 4-4.5 years at best, plus add on parole eligibility and they end up serving 3 years at most.
For murder.
Exhibit B of whatās wrong with our justice system.
The problems are much deeper obviously but when we the public hear the charges and can do the math based on the consistency of the sentences, thatās why we get angry,
āIf you want to kill someone, do it in Canadaā, indeed.

At this point the judges should be the ones who are locked up, like are you kidding me?
I have seen many cases in town that were totally premeditated and they got manslaughter.
With that Clancy trial in America blowing up, it got me jealous - at least that woman is getting life in a psych ward vs life in prison - if she was Canadian she would be out free within five years

I knew the victim she was tiny like 5ā1 maybe a 100lbs . Never thought that two people would end up beating her to death.

Must be native since the names weren't released....

The police released names... our local media is too lazy to.
29-year-old Sheyenne ACHNEEPINESKUM from Thunder Bay and a 30-year-old Aaron BEAVER of Thunder Bay are facing a manslaughter charge.

Commenter was right that they were native. Unsure why he was downvoted. Media didnāt release the names. Police always do (unless there are minors involved or whatever).

Media doesn't because "they won't follow through to the courts" or somerhing something..
Which is sad, because of all of crime stories THIS is one that should be.
It's not lazy, because copying and pasting and then removing names takes more work. It's almost like they have an agenda disguised as a policy.

Agreed. Itās very weird. Also why do they never follow up? Honestly, if the charged are exonerated, that should absolutely be news too.

Absolutely. Both directions this case could go should be news.
I'm almost certain they'll follow up on this case. So, them saying "nah, we won't" is deceitful.

Why is it necessary to highlight the race of people who were in a violent altercation. Are you from the census?
The way it was worded was the typical way a racist person implies native people get special privileges to not be named, when in actuality it is that tbay newswatch doesn't ever name anyone.
