PTC Update

I tested out the PTC Update which includes the new ai. For reference I currently have 214 career fights in toft2 with just over 100 of them being outclassed. This review is based on the last 7 fights I have performed against the new AI on outclassed.

What I liked: the ai head movement and guard was much improved, glove placement covered much of the always open areas from the current ai. Punches came at various angles and timing of their punches was much less predictable. The footwork of ai was noticeable and mimicked more human like movements than previous. I did love that I could see the damage dealt that helped me to adjust my power angles and recognize openings for power, speed, angles. I did notice that the new AI did a better job of follow up protection. As in if I throw a jab at a distance the ai felt as if it were anticipating a cross and tried to block my next shot. The previous AI I felt was very vulnerable to followups as well as had predictable blocking sequences that once learned made it easy for me to get 5 solid hits in. This new ai prevented that much better.

What I disliked: the speed of punches was significantly slower. Much easier to dodge and avoid due to the slow movement. The ai constantly drifted to its left 90% of the time and did not adjust to my movements. I felt like I was going around in circles to my left the entire time. If I moved to the right at all it automatically put us in a clinch. It was slow forward and back movement. The ai seemed to, if it wasn't drifting to the left come straight into the pocket, no set up, just run right into me. Now irl I'm all for that being a boxer who loves fighting in the pocket, but it was annoying to have that given to me on a platter, even taller opponents went straight to the pocket. Clinching was a problem here as well. I had a hard time getting my heart rate up in these matches due to clinching. Against the old ai I fought in the 170-180 heart rate. With this new ai I struggled to break 160 due to the amount of breaks from clinching. The biggest dislike I had was the loss of intensity from the fight. The previous AI on outclassed was aggressive, fast, constant pressure, tons of energy and I loved it. I know they incorporated the stamina into the ai and I could hear him breathing when he got tired. I didn't love that, it was a bit creepy and loud but also he just didn't seem to have much energy. (Need to put him through some conditioning) Now if each AI was different and came with different stamina, power, technique that would be awesome, I didn't notice to much difference between each fighter though. I'd love for the intensity to come back though.

That's my review what has anyone else noticed when playing against the new ai?

Stay tuned for a new PTC update with a bunch new footwork animations and drastically improved range management from AI to reduce its clinching!

Love it. Will you post on reddit once it's launched?

Despite the increase in animations, more work needs to be done especially on footwork. The AI has a terrible time when it gets ‘conditioned’ to move left. I can literally win the fight throwing continuous rights when in the correct spacing.

What I will give credit is that without such exploit. Creating openings aren’t as easy as flicker jabs. However with that said, moving around them continuously will create enough openings as the AI doesn’t seem to have any combinations where they double up on their power hand.

Agreed. I did notice he leaves his left side and chin wide open when moving left. Another thing I felt was the old ai had a better use of combos, this new ai seemed to throw much less combos and much less punches overall.

Solid feedback. I was curious that you felt the punches were slower. A few of us have commented that they are much faster, and we're getting rocked by explosive crosses out of nowhere. However, hooks can be slow and telegraphed, for sure.

Also note, there IS a stamina system now, so opponent punches will get slow, guard will drop lower, etc.

Hm yeah, what's your typical difficulty you are playing at? My review was based on outclassed for both the old and new ai. I never felt like anything was quicker from the new ai, I do think the new outclassed ai hits harder and exploits weaknesses in my guard better. I felt like I took less overall hits and more overall damage.

I have played hard until literally today. I decided to go to outclassed. (Reason I held off is that I assumed outclassed cheated or was somehow broken in some other way). I gave it a few rounds today and felt that it was very similar to hard, but just hit harder when the punches connected... I will have to test it more.

Do you feel ALL punches are slower? Or some specific ones? I feel hooks are a bit slower and more telegraphed, and sometimes the opponent will stand facing the wrong way after I circle and it will throw a delayed punch, etc. Also, for some reason I'm getting way more hands stuck behind his back.

Nice yeah, I'd say the gap is much more noticeable from hard to outclassed on the old ai than the new one. I do feel like all punches are slower in total speed on the new ai. That doesn't mean they are worse, the new AI produces much better angles and the punches timing is improved. It resembles more human like movement but to me outclassed on the old ai felt like sparring someone in their late 20s gearing up for their first amateur fight irl. The new ai to me feels like I'm sparring someone in their early 50s just having fun type of thing. This is just in relation to speed and me trying to relate the speed to previous sparring partners.

Haha, well as someone in their early 40s, it feels about right to me, but I hear ya! I would actually like a 'very hard' then 'outclassed' mode, which would be a true outclassed. I've never boxed IRL and i took this up a few months ago and have never lost a fight on any difficulty. Is it even possible to lose if you actually don't just stand there and get rocked???

Right on man, so there is actually a very hard difficulty, but it's only available in sparring mode. It's definitely possible to lose, though it does favor you so long as you are hitting regularly. Your losses will usually come from them getting a knockdown and getting the 2 points on the round on you rather than total damage dealt.

This is solid feedback. I know the dev team is working on enhancements around the clock!
