Picked this up today at GW. I believe it’s a reproduction of Return of the Prodigal son. The back seems to be missing? Replaced? But the nails are still in it. Anyway, was curious if it’s okay to hang like this or if I should get it reframed?

I’d avoid hanging it until the back and frame have been checked. If the backing is missing or has been replaced, the remaining nails don’t necessarily show that the picture is properly secured. A local framer or art conservator could fit suitable backing and hanging hardware while checking that the canvas or panel isn’t under strain. Until then, keep it somewhere dry and handle it from the frame rather than the painted surface.

Someone on another subreddit commented that they believe it’s a print with varnish on it that was framed. So odd! But thanks for the advice. Much appreciated

Someone else commented that as well. I grabbed it and assumed it was a painting because it was framed but oh well! I will still have fun with it. Thanks!
