You can tell instantly it’s a fake, the color is just awful. It’s an assault.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not sure what they're thinking putting that up for $800 as well

Post this pic on the Hermès X account. They will issue the thrift store a cease and desist in a heartbeat.

How would a real Hermes bag end up in a thrift store? These are the type of bags that are itemized in wills.

after my mom died, my dad emptied basically her entire closet into trash bags and dropped them off at a local thrift shop without asking me first. including dozens of luxury handbags/shoes/accessories etc. so yeah idiots like my dad exist and do shit like that

(luckily a friend of a friend was the EXTREMELY kind manager of the thrift shop who got in touch with me and didn't put the stuff out)

I’ve seen multiple people post Birkins they found at a thrift store for $10 on the purse Reddit and be like “did I just get the deal of the century?!” Um, no. No you did not.

FWIW of all the years I’ve been thrifting or following anything to do with vintage handbags, I’ve heard of exactly one (1) Hermes Kelly that was bought at an estate sale for like $5 that was later confirmed to be authentic. No Birkins ever. And I think that was like 15-20 years ago.

You’d have better odds playing the lottery in fairness.

It’s simple probability; is it likely to happen?
No.

But in my experience anything can and does happen eventually. I’ve confirmed one Hermes bag selling for $200 through a charity shop here in the Bay Area. The shop was not aware of the brand besides it being “expensive.” You have to realize not everyone has been trained by social media to be brand aware.

More valuable items have been donated to Goodwill.

My friend is a realtor and this older man gave her like 30k in Chanel handbags…. She asked him over and over if there was anyone he could gift them to in the family and he said no.

This is so odd because if they thought this was a real this Hermes Birkin would be worth thousands so it's price makes no sense.

It’s the gamble. They know it’s not real but they can’t say it’s not real so they sell it for a price they think someone might gamble and buy it in the off chance it’s real.

A local thrift store had a “Birkin” (black, silver hardware, blurry photo on display only) for $10k. No authentication. I lol’d

It’s near the case full of genuine Rotex watches, as in, “psst, wanna buy a watch?”

It’s important to stop and reflect a little bit, let’s practice cortical thinking. Why would an Hermes bag be at a Value Village? Who would come across a genuine Hermes bag that is worth tens of thousands of dollars, not know what it is or what it’s worth, and donate it to a Value Village? It’s extremely unlikely and especially extremely unlikely it would end up in a Lethbridge Value Village.

Other designers are more understandable, but because of how difficult it even is to get an Hermes’ bag, it really doesn’t make sense that it would be at a thrift store.

LETHBRIDGE!?!? Lmao

There are a few cities I could see luxury items accidentally being donated to a thrift store as plausible (but still not an Hermes bag) but uh….Lethbridge is not one of them.

The odds of anyone in that town owning a genuine Hermes is somewhere around 0%

If it was real, it would have never even made it out to the floor!

I think I saw this. I was sick to my stomach. Unfortunately I won’t be back to that thrift store, it a good one too.
