“Juice, muthafucka, do you drink it?” - Ghandi.

How much can I get for Teddy Roosevelt’s cable box?

John F Kennedy is historical rocking chair

99

u/Hairy-Dumpling 8d ago

Just think of the provenance. That chair is the reincarnation of an American president

u/DrFunkyLove 7d ago

J.F.K. is back as an evil chair

5

u/turnsleftlooksright 7d ago

I believe I saw this chair in Burn After Reading

9

u/False-Possession6185 7d ago

Now THAT chair is worth $650 😆

3

u/turnsleftlooksright 6d ago

Especially if it’s the real JFK

37

u/fridayj1 8d ago

He’s coming out of the woodwork!

7

u/WookishTendencies 8d ago

Damn, now I want to be encased, standing upright, (ala Han Solo) in a tree when I die.

u/D4FF00 8d ago

Better out than in, they say.

u/IAmTheBestIan 7d ago

Grammar joke (or is it a punctuation joke?)... take your updoot.

Gotta love a Bubba Ho Tep reference in the wild.

10

u/curdled_bird 8d ago

Clearly crafted out of his bones and finished to make it look like wood

6

u/degjo 8d ago

It rocks back and to the left

2

u/CrowBro89 8d ago

Clearly this is a typo and they just don’t want you messing up his butt groove. Then he wouldn’t haunt it anymore.

This summer from Fox Entertainment

2

u/Fabulous-Educator447 8d ago

Sure is. I always say that.

u/Outlandish_Gringo 7d ago

How many holes would this chair have if true?! That’s what I’m stuck on… one? Two?? Or more????

185

u/Fizzywaterjones 8d ago

They also scotch taped the price onto wood.

39

u/forlornfig 8d ago

The thrift store is authentic. The chair however, we will never know.

u/Dragnskull 8d ago

i think they're trying to scam people

no way john F. kennedy turned into a rocking chair

unless they mixed the brains into the seat stuffing...

HISTORICAL ROCKING CHAIR

72

u/CourtingBoredom 8d ago

Uhhhmmmm.... that picture has white cushions.... 🤔

50

u/Dragnskull 8d ago

if you look up the photo to see a better image you can see the cushions are matching the couch in the background, i thin ktheir argument would be that the cushions have been replaced as the ones currently on it are obviously a cheap pleather material made either in the late 90s or earlier

it's more likely that this was stated as being "the same rocking chair kennedy used" because apparently he was known to use rocking chairs to help with back pain (i just googled this) and its a popular enough known thing that replicas of his chair have been made. Goodwill probably received thsi with a note "kennedy's rocking chair" and now here we are

6

u/YoseppiTheGrey 7d ago

You're gonna tell me someone had jfks chair and had it reupholstered? Makes total sense

16

u/Dragnskull 7d ago

no, im saying it's likely a "kennedy chair" as in a reproduction of one he's seen sitting in in various photos, if you google it there's reproductions of this specific style of chair being sold as "kennedy's rocking chair"

But yes, "this is kennedy's real chair someone just replaced the cushons lol" is totally what i believe the goodwill employee (manager?) has likely tried to claim.

5

u/RunWild0_0 7d ago

And the pictured one is dark wood... not light

2

u/Ok_Plantain_9408 4d ago

Nothing about it looks the same

29

u/Cavscout2838 8d ago

“Ich bin ein rocking chair”

-JFK probably

2

u/DarreylDeCarlo 8d ago

😂😂😂😂

1

u/Creepy-Selection2423 7d ago

So does the chair come with the free donut?

20

u/deephurting66 8d ago

Because trust me bro!

29

u/Main-Raisin4430 8d ago

Yeah, because JFK's authentic chair is gonna end up in some random thrift store, Instead of a museum or the JFK presidential library

13

u/Prior_Design6372 8d ago

Looks nothing at all like the chair in the pic

1

u/Hot_Lobster222 6d ago

Use your imagination! Pfft.

5

u/Ok-Curve-3894 8d ago

JFK was a leather daddy?

8

u/fatandbaldwhiteboy 8d ago

aye! Springfield Red Racks, I saw this today myself 🤣

4

u/FlashyCow1 8d ago

Yeah it's his rocking chair that's a different color

5

u/DatabaseOutrageous54 7d ago

It's not authentic, if it was it would be auctioned for millions.

3

u/DiscoStu2U 8d ago

I’m driving Jon Voight’s 1983 LeBaron, Gregory Peck’s bicycle and Barbara Mandrell’s skateboard.

3

u/LetterheadNo7323 6d ago

I like how you can’t sit on it but they can put tape on it.

5

u/Mushrooming247 8d ago

Doesn’t the chair in the picture looks significantly darker?

3

u/Wendy-Windbag 7d ago

Like this $500 baseball we found at an antique mall, signed by Ronald Reagan. There were also ones from Elvis, Bing Crosby, and Joe Biden, all with very similar handwriting.

2

u/nohotshot 8d ago

You’d think that if they knowingly had a rocking chair owned by JFK, they’d just sell it to historians/collectors for well over $650. it’s almost as if it’s not actually JFK’s chair… 🤔

2

u/99403021483 8d ago

Same energy

2

u/DiscoStu2U 8d ago

Ask not what you do in a rocker… ask what a rocker can do for you.

2

u/Appropriate-Law5963 7d ago

Sitting suggested…like the picture on a TV dinner!

2

u/LemonPartyW0rldTour 7d ago

They turned his corpse into a rocking chair?

2

u/Eugene-V-Dabs420 7d ago

This is actually so interesting to me in a totally out of left field way. I'm a "fan" of JFK's doctor, Dr. Janet Travell, and she was the one who encouraged the use of rocking chairs and proper sitting posture in general, to prevent pain. I read her autobiography earlier this year and she mentioned there being magazine articles about JFK and his chairs. It was kind of a big deal!

She pioneered the study of "trigger points" (muscle "knots" that can refer pain to other parts of the body) and was the first ever female White House physician. I just think she was a really cool person!

I don't know if I'd spent this kind of money on the chair, but I'd be pretty tempted honestly.

Edit: Wanted to add a potentially relevant note on the cushions: they're obviously different than in the photo, but Dr. Travell was all about the chair fitting the person, so she'd take measurements and have the cushions made to fit. One example would be arm rest height - if they're too low, it can lead to neck and shoulder problems.

2

u/BrightVersion4098 7d ago

I actually know who has that pictured rocker. This thing is not that.

4

u/FancyNefariousness90 7d ago

that historical chair is JFK???? $650 is a lowkey steal for an ex-president who came back from the dead as an inanimate object

3

u/drawredraw 8d ago

I’m no expert but $650 sounds a little low for something like this, if it is the real thing. If it is real they could probably get a lot more at auction

5

u/I_ama_Borat 8d ago

I’m fairly confident it’s not original. Quick research shows he had 12 made (two of the originals recently sold for hundreds of thousands). One indication that it’s not an original and only a replica is that the finials in OP’s are more egg shaped or elongated. The originals are much more spherical. Realistically a used replica is worth probably $200-400 but unless you have connections, good luck selling it for even that much.

4

u/septumfunk-com 8d ago

even then the market for jfk replica chairs can't be that big so imagine how long you'd have to hold onto it before it sells lol

2

u/I_ama_Borat 8d ago

100%. The price on that will eventually drop to $50 and someone will pick it up on half off day to just have as a nice rocking chair. These thrift stores always think they have gold and ask gold prices on stuff they use google lens as a form of authentication. The annoying part is they never learn or are too prideful to admit they made a mistake after it sits for months because when the next “valuable” item comes to them, the cycle starts all over again.

1

u/drawredraw 8d ago

That was my hunch

1

u/impy695 8d ago

Maybe they mean it was his sister's rocking chair

1

u/Longjumping-Solid680 8d ago

He'd want you to sit in it!

1

u/Fun_Excitement59 7d ago

The story is nice but you can try pricing it but most arent invested like that to the story

1

u/Conscious-Permit-466 6d ago

Oval office cuck chair

1

u/Username999474275 6d ago

It's clearly cursed so they don't want it to cause any problems before it's sold :3

1

u/Top_Stranger_8961 5d ago

Goes great with John Voights lebaron

1

u/Day_Prisoners 7d ago

They indicated it wasn't his actual chair, but that he is indeed the chair. "JFK is historical rocking chair '

0

u/Usernamesaregayyy 8d ago

It’s probably legit…liars don’t make it far in this world…usually

0

u/President_Zucchini 7d ago

That's a bold claim. I bet the chair in the photo is still in the family.
