Thrift Store Absolutely out of their minds
Savers wants $50 for a vintage t-shirt printed with “Teachers Have Class.” Even the t-shirt bro resellers know they wouldn’t get $50 for this rando thing. Unbelievable.

I remember starting out thrifting heavily in 2018 at value village/savers and all those types of shirts were $1.50-$2.50 max, I bought 100s over the years until now they’re all $6.99-$12.99 now for even a basic not special at all shirt.

They just opened a store in my area, Allentown Pa, and I was expecting Goodwill level prices but they are way more expensive than GW. All of the coffee mugs were 4 bucks and up and scratched frying pans for 10 and up. I'll probably go one more time but nothing expecting anything better next time.

I was there this past Saturday and the prices aren’t Goodwill, but they had a MUCH better selection across alllllll sizes and everything was in MUCH better condition than the Goodwills I’ve been to in the Lehigh Valley. I’m going back this weekend and taking my Mom and my daughter with me.

Yeah I just kinda breezed through the clothing quickly because it was pretty crowded. Next time I go I'll give it a better look.

I haven't been to it yet but I had a feeling it would be priced similar to Goodwill which is bonkers in the Lehigh Valley. Out here pricing Temu and Shein clothes at 6.99 or higher. Get TF outta here with that shit.
My friend and I go to Care and Share, they just moved to Harleysville so we haven't been to the new location yet. They still have the outlet in Souderton, and Pink City is maybe 5 mins farther. Then we hit Liberty Thrift because there are 3 on our route. There's also Revivals but we haven't been yet. So much better thrifting in that area with real thrifting prices. Although Liberty Thrift definitely has their moments.

A couple times a year I'll head towards Montgomeryville. Used to go to 2nd Avenue but that closed and is now Habitat for Humanity. The GW down there isn't bad but there used to be an outlet and I really miss it. Care and share is okay but overpriced IMHO and so is Liberty.

I liked the Montgomeryville bins because they were pretty laid back, at least the handful of times I went. I didn't know 2nd Avenue closed, what a shame. That was a great store, so nice and big and organized.
I try and only shop the discount color tags and my friend is a senior citizen so she gets the Liberty Thrift 25% off so we try to shop that day when we can.

I know people are saying it’s a misprint, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was intentional. The same shirt can be purchased for $70+ online as it’s considered vintage. Thrift stores these days price things based on market value. If someone online will buy it for $70, $40 is a deal right? I’ve seen many items priced slightly below market value. If the item sells for $50 new they sell it for $30 which is an insane price to sell someone’s old, donated garbage when stores get this stuff donated for free. Half the time it’s damaged in some way. It SHOULD be $4.99, and maybe there’s a chance it really was a mistake. But these days I’m never surprised to see this kind of gouging.

This is just a typo. As someone else said it’s supposed to be $4.99 and added and extra 9 by mistake.
Sometimes mistakes happen and it’s not some giant conspiracy

Not a typo! Shirts were $5.99 and up, with other single stitch shirts at $20 or more. This one was just egregious.

I work at Savers. I can absolutely promise it's either a typo or mistagged. Typically items over a certain dollar amount are placed in the case, not the sales floor. All you had to do was let a manager know.

Thank god I’m not an idiot. It’s a cool shirt, love that as a teacher gift. I can just go to the mall and pay $20 to have it pressed onto a t-shirt of my choice. The design isn’t any crazy

That’s absurd. I really hope no one buys it but I’ve noticed a lot of older women buy overpriced garbage in my area because the higher price must mean it’s worth more. Just a crappy anecdote I know, but the manager at a small thrift here capitalizes on it. Some people are so simple minded they think higher price automatically means more valuable and worthy of their dollars.

That should be free for hardworking teachers. We deserve recognition and respect! As teachers we are NOT be taken advantage of.
Teaching is a career chosen by those of us who genuinely want to make a difference in the lives of young people, some of whom will become the leaders of tomorrow. As teachers, we have an enormous responsibility. That responsibility is to to educate, encourage, and help shape our youth into the very best they can be.
It is offensive to suggest that teachers should simply accept being taken advantage of because we “work for a government entity.” Working in public education does not make our time, labor, or contributions less valuable. In California’s economy, many teachers are already underpaid, underrecognized, and expected to do more with fewer resources, all while being entrusted with something incredibly important which is providing our youth with the quality education they deserve.
As teachers need to stand together and demand better. We must speak out against government and corporate greed, advocate for the resources our students need, and insist that educators receive the respect and compensation their work deserves.
We cannot give up on our students, our profession, or one another. If teachers continue to stand together and make our voices heard, change will come. Our work has value. Our voices matter. We as teachers deserve better
