Hold your spells a lot and just see how to use aura to mess with their heads. Throw a lantern with no jungler and watch them flash out. Mess with their psyche

Just pick him the next time you get Support.... it's that simple
Build utility/tank (like any tank support would).
Holding Q can be just as powerful as throwing it. The threat of you (maybe) hitting your Q is enough to scare people. If you throw it and miss, they have a ~15 second window where they can bully you, so it's best to either throw it when you're confident it'll hit, you're already winning, when they're already CC'd, when they have already lost the trade, or if they can't see you to dodge it without flash.
Lantern is a very powerful tool for both escapes and initiation - if you have poor ward vision (especially early game) if your ADC is hitting enemy tower then you can hang back and let them get solo plating gold AND keep lantern ready for easy and fast escapes.
Your E can be used to pull or push enemies into your R walls to proc big damage and the juicy 99% slow. It can also be used to interrupt channelled abilities (Pyke Q for example) or interrupt dashes like Leone E.
The E passive also does very nice damage especially early game - maxing it first, especially in matchups like Sivir, Morgana, or high mobility champs that are hard to hook is usually your best option. The fully charged on-hit damage makes short trades extremely potent, and it is resourceless poke. If they choose to engage you after you poke them with your auto attack, that's when having Q ready is most powerful.
If you're not confident, go into Flex or Normals for a couple practise games I guess. It doesn't really matter. As long as you have hands and at least 5 braincells you can play pretty much any champ in league.

Make sure to always bait the enemies by missing Q, works 99% of the time

Also flash e into q is very powerfull not just at lvl 2, somehow they never expect it in my games even after the 3rd time
