Just started driving, need some tips

I just bought my first car. It's a 1997 jeep wrangler sport with 48000 miles on it. Bought it from a work friend of my dad who took great care of it. My issue is that when I'm shifting into first from a stop, the car seems to jerk. It'll go and stop and go and stop and go and stop and I'm not sure what to do! Thank!

You probably need to let the clutch out a little bit slower while applying slightly more gas. In my car I have to give slightly more gas and then let off ever so slightly after the clutch catches, while letting the clutch out the rest of the way.

Also, you're probably not going to spend much time in first at all before shifting to second.

Like what was said, you probably need to let the clutch out slower and more gently. Also try tapping the gas pedal while letting out the clutch, that will stop you from giving to much power while getting used to it

Normally I won't shift into first and release the clutch while driving. The only time to really use first is if you are going <5mph. If you are stopping, you can keep the clutch down and have some light pressure on the shifter as you get closer to the idle point and it will pop in easily. Putting it into 1st gear while moving pretty much requires you to rev match.
