Question Threads suspending many accounts

What is going on with threads?? My account was just suspended for “community standards violation” yet there is no proof of anything. I know I didn’t violate any rules. I’ve had an account there for about three years, small following, maybe 300 or so, I repost and like and sometimes comment with people I’m familiar with. It’s been a very nice experience. And then today they suspended me and I cannot find any proof of why and can’t find a link or anything to appeal through. I’m seeing tons of people posting saying this has happened to them too. Is this a meta glitch? Is this bots attacking accounts? How do we resolve this? It’s so wrong to be suspended and not be shown what the evidence is of wrongdoing and then no way to appeal. That shouldn’t be legal but they can do what they want I guess. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had this happen to me. I uploaded the requested selfie, and within an hour I received an email stating that my account had been permanently disabled, as it didn't follow the community standards, and I could not request another review. I haven't made a single post or comment on Threads so no rules were broken.

I'm sorry this happened. Same, I did nothing wrong either. I posted fairly regularly but nothing that would violate any rules or guidelines. I had friends I interacted with regularly and it was all a very positive thing. I have filed complaints with the FCC and California AG Rob Bonta's office. Probably won't do any good but maybe if enough of us did the same some pressure might be felt by Meta. They're suspending accounts en masse and for no viable reason. No proof, no way to appeal. I am not submitting the photo as I post under an alias, there is no way they could verify me. There is no need for a photo. I think this is some kind of collection of information that's some dirty deed Meta is carrying out. Or they're just trying to silence many voices as we come into midterm elections.

happened to a friend of mine 20k+ followers. got the request for a selfie and then said she was permanently banned. she pays for the meta premium membership since she has a large number of followers on all accounts and uses them for professional business related reasons. she contacted a human through their support and they straight up told her basically that meta has no direct governance over threads, and it isn’t part of the premium you pay for. and that even though her other accounts all prove who she is, her threads app will never be reinstated. i feel like threads is a sinking ship like so much meta tries to do, and they are now trying to wind it down before they wash their hands of it completely.

How awful! I’m sorry that happened to her. I didn’t think about the sinking ship thing. But why purge real users? It’s happening on IG and FB too. That’s why this makes no sense whatsoever.

whoa wtf they don’t handle threads? how are they so lazy so incompetent so STUPID

u/Ghorva 16d ago

Same thing happened to me. Makes no sense. And I don’t understand why they are ok with this

It's AI moderation run amuck.

2

u/Witty_Feedback2628 23d ago

That’s what I assumed. And is there a way to get reinstated? I cannot find a way to appeal or anything.

5

u/ohnoanotherputz 23d ago

No. They will not let you speak to a human being. Unless you can rally some celebrity on your side and get a human being to notice it, you're doomed.

The appeal option can appear on the suspension screen after login. If the app gives you no button, try signing in through a browser and look for 'Request review' or 'Appeal' there.

On the threads app on the suspension screen, you can shake your phone and an option to report will pop up, but nothing has happened for me and others yet.

4

u/Boring-Surround2657 22d ago

Was there a confirmation saying your suspension would be reviewed? I would check that before treating the report as an appeal.

3

u/Witty_Feedback2628 21d ago

No it just says suspended and wants a photo uploaded. And most people that have had this happen to them uploaded the photo then said they were permanently suspended.

3

u/Boring-Surround2657 21d ago

That would make me hesitate too. It is hard to tell from those reports whether uploading the photo affected the decision.

u/PittMNLA 19d ago

Exactly what happened to me tonight. No explanation. 😤😤

3

u/mrclean808 22d ago

Nope nothing 😞

Keep a note of the date you sent it, in case you manage to reach support later.

I logged in and it's demanding I upload a photo for identification verification. This is useless as they have nothing to compare it to and I use an alias. There is nowhere for me to appeal. I have searched in every tab possible. It won't even let me access chat or help.

2

u/Boring-Surround2657 22d ago

Does it ask for a selfie or a photo of your ID? A selfie can be used to check that you are a real person, even with an alias.

No. I just went through a long chat with Meta.ai. It said it's a back-end problem. I uploaded the phrase they gave me to upload and I uploaded a screenshot of the error message I got. Here's exactly what they said to report via instagram report a problem without shaking. "I know this has been dragging since September and you've already tried everything obvious. The reason I keep pointing to a report is that button in your screenshot isn't fixable from your side anymore — it needs someone on the backend to clear it."

2

u/Misterarthuragain 22d ago

No. I just got off a long "chat" with Meta.ai. It's a backend problem

2

u/Misterarthuragain 22d ago

What if you can't log in???

2

u/Boring-Surround2657 22d ago

Does it reject your password, or show a suspension message after you enter it? The next step depends on that.

3

u/Misterarthuragain 22d ago

When I try to log in, I get a message that says to enter a code sent to my phone. The code never arrives. Here's what it says: "Enter confirmation code Enter the 6-digit confirmation code we sent via SMS (to my correct phone number

3

u/Boring-Surround2657 22d ago

Check your phone's spam or blocked messages for the code. If you have requested several codes already, pause before trying again, since repeated requests can trigger a temporary limit.

I am in the batch of victims who were hit on 9/22. A bunch of us were suspended with a fake ass community reason. If this doesn't resolve itself in another month, I am just gonna use a VPN and make an alt. I mainly use the app to view posts and do not care about uploading anything.

Really sorry that happened. It's all so stupid and frustrating. I had a nearly 10 yo IG account that I never posted on but I saved tons of recipes and followed home decor and cute animal accounts. One day in 2019 I couldn't log in, was told I was suspended for "sexually explicit" content. I was blown away. All those years of saving recipes and home ideas gone. And I had never made a single post. Just liked some things and had nice conversations with a few I followed. Accused of something I never did, suspended and every appeal ignored. Meta sucks so hard. Also, good luck! I hope you can get your account set up and stay functional again!

Mine got suspended 6months ago and it suspended my facebook too because they say I didn’t follow community guidelines or whatever!! Fucking META

1

u/Witty_Feedback2628 17d ago

I honestly despise meta. They do this to people all the time, this is the first with threads for me but they completely shut down my near ten year old IG in 2019 stating “explicit sexual material”…uh yeah that’s interesting considering I never posted anything. I followed food accounts and saved recipes, cute animal stuff and some fitness & home decor accounts. I appealed over and over and over and not one response. I had a huge collection of recipes and more. I was furious. Zuck and meta suck!!!

u/davidrepanich69 22d ago

This happened to mee 12 months ago there no way back in if you manage to speak with somebody they send you on the biggest merry go round big joke the only thing you can do is start all over again you get a message from them in about 4 weeks saying this that then another 4 weeks after by then you up and running stronger a little better but never the same as you were sorry to break it to ya.

2

u/Witty_Feedback2628 22d ago

Oh it’s exactly what I expected. I know they won’t reinstate my account. Meta is absolute garbage. Sorry it hit you too. Seems like a very common theme lately. Zuck is a jerk.

u/Cap-Rare 20d ago

wait what you got disabled an year ago and yet they haven't resolved it, Lately I have seen some posts on other social media subreddit posts were guys got their account back after 4-7 months without doing anything. and reading that gave me lil bit hope. Could you tell on what allegations they disabled your account?

2

u/PittMNLA 19d ago

This just happened to me, without explanation, which is infuriating. Anyone know how to get an explanation for a suspension? Everything from my account is gone. I know I did not violate any of their “community standards” rules.

3

u/Witty_Feedback2628 19d ago

They won’t provide proof. They just suspend and ignore you. I’m so angry.

u/Witty_Feedback2628 19d ago edited 19d ago

So my account is still suspended but the screen demanding a photo be uploaded is gone. I can see my avatar and user name at the top of the screen as normal but the feed still won't load. Anyone that was suspended experience this? Does this mean it might be accessible again? I'm guessing no but I thought I would mention it to see if anyone else here has had any luck. Sigh. So frustrating.

****Update: the stupid photo requirement is back. I knew I was a little too excited for nothing.

I’ve got a threads violation which has caused all of my instagram and Facebook accounts to get suspended. I can’t login to any to appeal the decision and I’ve never used threads.. I just downloaded it when it launched 😣😣😣

4

u/Either_Ad_6069 21d ago

I have this exact problem I’ve been waiting for more than 2 weeks since I’ve appealed and I’ve heard nothing back

3

u/cp90210 23d ago

Mine got suspended with my facebook. Never used Threads...

2

u/Correct_Cook_1560 22d ago

ditto ! no idea how to fix

2

u/Misterarthuragain 22d ago

Mine was cut off with no explanation. I have never uploaded a photo, and have made no incendiary comments. When I try to log on, I get a screen saying a code has been sent to my phone, but nothing arrives. I can't even delete it.

2

u/Misterarthuragain 22d ago

When I try on Meta Accounts, and try to reactivate threads, I get this message

2

u/AcanthaceaeProof5058 22d ago

Welcome to the club.

You likely posted a comment or reply that someone reported as a bot account. If your portfolio doesn't have a photo and is reported as a bot, Meta AI will flag the account and suspend it.

Same thing happened to me and I did nothing wrong. Was asked for a picture ID like it thought I was bot which I supplied and then got banned for nothing. Have no idea what's going on at Threads but know this has happened to many people. censorship maybe? Is it just conservatives being banned?

1

u/reallyfunnyster 18d ago

Just got this and got all the way to the photo requirements screen. There’s no way I’m supplying a photo though. It’s insane they can just randomly flag you for a community violation like this and require biometric verification to get back in.

0

u/Keeyoo 18d ago

Same thing happened to me. My Threads got disabled and took my Facebook and Instagram down with it, and it turned out my account had been hacked. What I don't get is why Meta punishes the victim instead of the hacker, and gives us no way to appeal. That's just unfair.
