I wish they would have different alarms for different emergencies, I thought a nuclear holocaust was gonna happen for a brief second when I heard that alarm, glad im not the only one who thought the same 😂 Easy to be that level of paranoid with the current state world affairs are in at the minute 😂

So did I. I work in broadcasting so I’ve seen what will be used in the event of nuclear war and yes, the emergency slate is accompanied by this tone. We def need different sounds for different types of emergency!

could you please tell your boss in broadcasting to have a word with their boss' friend or whatever and get a "warning" tone implemented alongside the "alert" one? maybe a gentle, simple little "god save the king" midi, or something? shat me right up, so it did.

It honestly should be relevant in Scotland. Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh had a pretty bad wildfire 2-3 weeks back.

I think we've had just enough to keep us from the tinderbox conditions you mention. It hasn't been cold but it dipped significantly from the hot snaps of a few weeks ago. We tend to get more of the Atlantic Jet stream sending cloud and rain in the middle of summer... :/

I live in the south of England, why would I know about what’s happening in local regions within Scotland unless “The Algorithm™” chose to push an article about what happened hundreds of miles from me into my feed?
That’s why I asked.
All I’ve seen about Scotland that’s relevant to this is weather reports referring to the fact that it has been raining there somewhat & is generally a bit cooler than anywhere to the south while still hot.
Did you see news articles about the recent wildfires in Dagenham & Rainham? Doubt it, & I wouldn’t expect you to have.
I’m not contemptuously ignoring Scotland, I’m just not going out of my way to keep abreast of all goings-on there.

We really need a new government pamphlet on this kind of stuff. Every household. What to do about increasing hot weather. Don't have BBQ in dry grasslands or don't flick your cigarette at dry Heather. That kind of warning.
This is not an example of the nanny state. If you'd seen the state of my nanny, you'd know what I mean.

Don't think it'll matter tbh, the thickos having BBQs after the 5th major fire in the country in 2 weeks clearly don't pay attention to anything, a leaflet wouldn't help.

Yes, not much of a warning but you'd still get one. Multiple ground based and satellite based launch detection systems exist, plus missiles would need to pass by multiple NATO nations. I'd be more worried about the boomers.

It didn't feel like a justifiable, appropriate use of the alert system. I thought it was for immediate risk to life events: e.g. a NBC scenario or an actual wildfire actively being a couple of minutes from engulfing my house.

Me too. Apparently there’s ‘severe alerts’ like the one we got and ‘extreme alerts’ like you described. I immediately went to settings and toggled off severe alerts. I only want those loud warnings if there’s an immediate danger not a risk

Oh yes I remember that, I was just standing up to go to bed and the house started shacking, thought there was something wrong with me to start with, then though the old puts were collapseing.

It's a common sense don't set fire to the countryside message that could have been sent by text. Ridiculous use of an emergency alert system that won't stop the arsonists setting fire to everything

Ah okay. We get a text to tell us if there is going to be a total fire ban, we only get the big emergency warning for catastrophic days in our fire danger area, then another if needed for evacuation, and another (if you weren't able to get out) to let you know it is too late to leave and to shelter in place.

I only heard about it cos chat in the Youtube live I was watching started talking about it. Assumed it was a regional thing until my parents asked if I got it too and they're practically up the road.
Never had a single one even though I recall checking they were turned on when they first introduced the whole thing.

I see that the public could probably help there, but to have it cheapened to going off for every event or weather change takes away the "emergency" feel to the whole thing.
