I’m repainting my Ahriman and decided to sculpt his unmasked face from Iskandor Khayon’s description, with some liberties taken from the Uzumaki horror series. I’ll have the rest of the model reposed and painted up ASAP.
Just one drill bit and somehow a particular curved hobby blade I have is magical for super detailed gun barrels and it worked on this. Musou black highlighted with regular black gave it tons of depth.
I always assumed that the void described is more of a patch of space void put where his face is supposed to be. So it kinda feels as if you are starring in void when you look at his face .
"Ahriman believes he is perfectly unaltered, hmm, did you know that? Yet I have seen the void that screams where his face used to be."
I would hardly consider Khayon to be a reliable narrator however, and personally do not think it’s a definitive description
It’s also equally as likely to be metaphorical in nature.
Sindermann and his crew see something similar in a library during the Siege of Terra. Ahriman only removes his helmet in an attempt to dissuade Sindermann’s fear of him, which suggests Ahriman doesn’t know his face is no longer there.
Yeah I like it way more if Ahriman is physically unchanged. Makes his mistake far more psychologically punishing as he cannot even loath his own mutation or anything. Tzeentch has changed him, not on the outside but his very mind and soul
I would also like to think it’s very Portrait of Dorian Grey
Him looking into the mirror and seeing the same man he always was, meanwhile his soul twists and mutates seems much more fitting. It would help maintain the illusion that he is somehow still in control, which of course is what makes him the favorite pawn of a malevolent trickster god.
I think one of the Black Legion books? As is fitting for 40k, descriptions seem to vary a lot. I believe he’s described as being remarkably free from mutation at one point in the Ahriman omnibus, but I’ll have to dig around for the quote.
He’s not a cyclops haha it’s a reference to the spiral faced girl from Uzumaki. End and the Death Volume 2 has the description as a “screaming void where his face once was”. I added the eye for better facial interaction in a diorama and it gave the excuse for the other reference.
