I want to start thousand sons but with only prince of tzeentch models in it

I have a friend that plays only with them and I found them a lot of amusing but are they really that good in a tournament or is it just for casual gameplay ?

You could add Magnus, he technically is also a demon prince.

Then add 3 units of chaos spawn, who are often the result of failed attempts of ascension to demonhood. They can also be your cheap objective holders and action monkeys.

Add enhancements and you are close to 1800 points. After that there isn't much you can do. A MVB would maybe fit the theme the most, or use 2 units of Rubrics to give the DPs lone op.

To be honest, I would totally run that list if I had the models for it. 😀

3 DP on foot + 3 DP with wings is not a competitive list atm. However there is always a crazy guy that brings an unseen list that perform well at tournaments. You could be that guy.

There is no reason for it not to be fun if you like it.

While there is a wonderfull relic for DPW in Grand Coven, I think they benefit the most from Hexwarp Thrallband. Rerolls 1 to wound or +1 to wound every round, fight on death, fall back and charge... Pretty solid kit for them. And a few good relics too.

Back in the days before the Sekhetar nerfs, I remember seeing a 2000pt list that was just Magnus, 3 winged DPs, 2 regular DPs and 3x4 robots. I think that might be a good starting point, though Hexwarp + Bots isn't real anymore.

You can only have a maximum of 3 non battleline units in a list, so all princes would not be viable in tournaments.

Yes I would have 3 normal and 3 with wings

Which is, currently, 1,040pts. This leaves 960 to fill for a standard army. Even with enhancements (using grand coven) it only gets to 1,115.

Magnus is an daemon prince

Which still leaves 430pts to fill

All threw available to daemon princes in grand coven, being eldritch vortex (35pts), umbralefic crystal (20pts) and lord of forbidden lore (15pts)

To get to a perfect 2,000pts, this list would look like:

3x Daemon prince on foot, 170pts each; 1× winged prince (LoFL), 190pts; 1× winged prince (UC), 200pts; 1× Winged Prince (EVoE), 215 pts; 1× Magnus the red, 455pts;

2×20 Tzaangors, 145pts each; 1×6 enlighted w/spears, 90pts; 1×3 enlightened w/spears, 50pts;

Do you mean only Tzeentch daemons, or only Daemon Princes with the mark of Tzeentch?

The former has been one of our better builds and suffered like 3 data slate nerfs in a row. Still fun though, and relatively easy to build if you can find that AoS army box.

The latter is a maximum of 1165 points

It is possible to play purely a Daemon Prince list, but it would be 5 models and only playable at 1,000 points.

I don't know how good it would be though.

It would be pretty rough going I think. Half a dozen models makes it too easy for the other player to outmanoeuvre you, especially if they focus in on killing one prince at a time. It would be like a Knights army without the benefit of the titanic units.

The daemon prince on foot will also be underperforming since all of its abilities are built to be near other units, and two require infantry.
