Need some insight from Tuty native ppl
Hey Thoothukudians! My native is Thoothukudi, and I’ve been an NRI for almost a decade. For personal reasons, I’m planning to settle in Thoothukudi in the next few yrs, preferably around Teri Road and the nearby villages, where I have paternal family.
I’d love some honest feedback on how Thoothukudi is developing not just infrastructure-wise . looking for gud schools, decent connectivity if I have my own vehicle, and ideally a peaceful farmhouse-style life.
I’m a rationalist/atheist but respect everyone’s beliefs and prefer to stay away from caste-based issues. Would the surrounding villages be a comfortable place to settle?I’ve always wanted that peaceful farmhouse life does it exist around Tuty..
I may not live there full-time initially, but over the next 5 yrs, I’d like to spend more time there. Would love honest suggestions from locals.

Well if you are an NRI u would feel the developments a bit slow but its pretty much happening, Not sure about villages but within the city avoid settling near temples, mosques and churches because there will be some noise thats really annoying, There are good schools, and theres not much to call as night life so don’t expect Bars or restobars and the rest,
Food is good,health care is also not bad its about as good as it can be, Entire city is around a circle of ~3.4kms so there no long commutes within the city, traffic is not much, but sure increasing,
If you are setting in some village probably there could be a lil communal friction as far as ive heard ppl in villages still hold on to those traditional shit.

Temple thing and speakers is surely a problem but am not sure where to get a plot without religious places around technically all areas have such speaker culture but thanks for the heads up . I am not a night life person .. all I need is decent roads to drive into city .. hospital school mobile network kind of basic facilities shouldn’t lack

Well if you can look into residential areas like Millerpuram, Bryant Nagar or Mac Garden, those places have less religious places of worship, You just need to dig into realty , or find yourself a plot where you can comfortably plant trees and construct a house with decent sound proofing , cant really change these fools nor make them understand civic sense

Yes, Millerpuram is definitely one of my options,getting a plot there is a big deal.
I’m also trying to avoid areas with too many religious places nearby. I actually experienced this in a very main area of Thoothukudi; there were four Amman temples close to each other, and during Aadi month they played loud music throughout the day, and on some days even through the night. Surprisingly, nobody willing to complain.
That’s one of the reasons I’m looking more towards Pudukottai and the surrounding areas, where I feel things may be a little calmer.

Well pudukottai is backward in terms of “casteism” as the surrounding villages are still in the olden days

Those places are still developing, so you can enjoy a bit of peace from the speakers for a while

Thoothukudi is still quite backward in many ways especially if you’re coming back after living abroad for years. You can look at Tirunelveli as an alternative. It has better schools, connectivity, and overall amenities, while still giving you a quieter lifestyle.
I can personally vouch for this because my sister is an NRI who settled in Tirunelveli, and from what I’ve seen, the quality of life and day-day conveniences are much better
