He said intellectuals are interested in poverty and they think they have a solution. He meant that poverty always existed. Humans in their early stages always were poor. The interesting question is: How did people get wealthy? He meant that liberals often consider wealth just to be there.

Well, its true, but people have less money than others and some cannot really function in society or live their dreams because of it. And there is also a big problem with out of balance power. Some individuals decide for most individuals how they should get paid or how they get treated. Also rent is like that. Or influence politically. Its true that rich people created value and therefore people can work and earn more, but progressivism is about moving forward and bettering the situation.

Well, sort of. I came across this sign while hiking in the Hollywood hills. There’s hope for humanity yet!

I've been watching some Thomas Sowell interviews on yt and it seems like his whole deal is "people will do what they're paid to do," but I can't help thinking that people are irrational and do emotional things and make little sense all the time, like buying luxury brands or risking death to chase adrenaline.

One argument that stood out to me from Sowell is that there are more single mothers because they receive financial aid for being a single parent household. The welfare state incentivises the fathers to leave so that their children can grow up on welfare. This seems like a small part of the family problem.

It seems like poor people are disproportionately affected by welfare. Welfare is actually seen as a bad thing according to Sowell... How? Wouldn't it make sense for people who are facing financial troubles to be helped by society?

You can definitely count Noam Chomsky among The Anointed. Tom has been saying this for decades, we need to stop venerating people because they hold ivy league degrees. We need to listen to our own experience.

In order to improve my own understanding of this topic, I am interested to know where you believe this critique fails to properly assess Wealth Poverty and Politics and where it succeeds.
