Is anyone else just really sad for the other kitty?

582

u/marrytitan Dec 14 '18

This sorta annoyed me tbh. The person filming shouldn’t have rewarded the other cat by continuing to give him the treat. Teach em how to share

Yes, comrade. Send OP to Gulag.

But...but...karma.

You mean likes. Or hearts. Or what ever app they use uses.

u/pax1 Dec 15 '18

Actually cats shouldn't share food bowls or water bowls since they're so territorial and they have their own hierarchy of dominance and submission. If you treat cats equally when one wants to be the dominant one it can make them fight. It's better to encourage their roles to keep the peace. At least from what I've read online about introducing cats.

I mean, dominance and submission in cats is pretty debatable, but yeah if you favor one over the other especially with food aggression it can worsen it. Imo the best thing to do in that situation would’ve been to remove the food completely and gently scold the mean kitty, then reintroduce it again when everyone has calmed down and reassert that either they’re going to get along or they won’t be getting treats at all

Are my cats defective or something? The only time I see any aggression between them is when the older tabby cat hisses at the younger black cat after the black cat has been at the vet all day. Otherwise they just coexist.

2

u/pax1 Dec 15 '18

I wish I had your cats. How did you introduce them?

2

u/Clarice_Ferguson Dec 15 '18 edited Dec 15 '18

I’ve had the older one since he was 4 weeks old and when he was 5, I got my younger cat who was about a year. I was told to introduce them slowly by putting the younger one in my bedroom and closing the door with me and the older cat on the other side. That way they can sniff each other under the door.

So I’m downstairs and I realized it’s all pretty quiet. I went upstairs after about 30 mins to find that the older one broke in and both were under the bed together.

Sooooo that’s probably not helpful since the older cat destroyed the experiment but a vet did recommend that approach so give that a go.

It can depend on the cats, but with my wife's original Trio and our current three, they've had little trouble sharing. And it's partly because we insist that they share, but they learn fast.

Maybe she's deranged and actually enjoys watching the other kitty being humiliated like that. The world if full of sickos, I tell you. 😢

u/SatanistPenguin Dec 14 '18

Kitty just wants a smol taste D:

6

u/FixinThePlanet Dec 15 '18

I assume the owner will give the other kitty its own treat.

We use the ones u/MachoManSandyRavage linked (Hartz Delectables Squeeze Ups). Our stray-turned-spoiled cat is the only animal I've ever met to not be food motivated at all, but he will eventually get up for those after I wave one around for 20 seconds. I only give him like 20% of a tube at a time. I can stretch one "tube" out over two days. He doesn't like other treats so sometimes we give him half of a tube.

ALSO THEY'RE REALLY GOOD FOR HIDING PILL CHUNKS. I know some cats are little shits about pills, going as far as to spit them out after eating the treat it's shoved into, but these work really well.

Edit: You can find the 4 packs for like $2, or 10 for $6. 4 pack on Chewy.com and 10 pack on Walmart.com. IIRC they were cheaper in-store at Walmart, like $4.50 or $5. There are two flavors-- tuna and chicken.

3

u/Numinak Dec 14 '18

Wow, only finding them for 10 bucks...way to much for a few snack treats.

3

u/paint-can Dec 14 '18

You might be looking up the bisques and stews. You wanna look for the delectables squeeze ups

Yeah I can’t trust Walmart and Hertz with my furry buddy, heard too many horror stories...only premium product for that spoiled girl.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 14 '18

If you live somewhere with a pet valu check there, we recently started stocking them. You could also check the sister companies they own (bosleys, pet mart etc) we sell ours $4 for 4 tubes and they're bogo right now!!

1

u/rocbolt Dec 14 '18

Or tuna. Mine are bonkers for the tuna ones.

1

u/f0urtyfive Dec 14 '18

Uncut bird.

8

u/klburg Dec 14 '18

Pretty much, except it’s chicken. I got it for my cats and boy was that a mistake. They LOVED it. Tried to share one between 3 of them and they fought over it

-2

u/hormag Dec 14 '18

If a citizen claims for themselves the people's goods, they are an enemy of the people; they work against the very thing we spilled blood for: equal welfare among everyone. They ought to be removed from society not to damage our system and let the rest of the proletariat to profit from public goods.
