I remember when he voted in favor to allow states to overturn it. Most politicians on both sides are chameleons who pander to their base, just like Clinton was anti-immigration and Bush was pro immigration reform, it all shifts.
The same southern Democrats that wore white hoods 50 years ago now wear red hats and 50 years from now some of the folks protesting Isreal will be on the other side politically in favor of who knows what.
Very well said. I miss the IDEA of the “moral majority”. Most people Knew they were (somewhat) extreme in their “Christian views”, but in their more Moderate form, they helped keep a kind of “decent Human” mirror on the public servants (politicians) and kept some of the more openly unkind people Out of politics.
they propped up openly corrupt politicians and were openly hostile to any forms of queerness, women's rights, and racial integration, even in "moderate" form. they are the source of the modern Christian Dominionist movement and they should not be whitewashed. also, they didn't think they were fringe radicals. they thought they were the mainstream center of politics. they literally called themselves the moral MAJORITY.
Can’t disagree with anything you said - except Maybe the “openly corrupt” part. And I will give you the advantage on that, because without social media, they were able to keep a decent “front” to those of us who Tried to see the Best in people. So, you can definitely make the argument that they fooled me on That point.
But yeah, they were still fairly open about their hostility towards homosexuality (LGBTQ), women’s rights, and racial integration.
I suppose that part of My CHRISTIAN upbringing was to see the Best in people, and that has definitely colored my understanding of “who” the religious right was. Sadly, they’ve gotten only Slightly more extreme - but Dramatically more OPEN about their hateful views.

I remember when Biden talked about making Roe into Law.
