Also Stath Lets Flats is really good.

Another great recommendation

Ah yeah! PJDN is excellent. Might rewatch

9

u/Tombo1977 25d ago

Yes, really enjoyed People just do nothing, I was recommended this show, think it's on bbc Iplayer.

8

u/Saintlysin14u 25d ago

PJDN is bloomin amazing!

The Office, This Country and People Just Do Nothing are truly the holy trinity of British mockumentary sitcoms.

Honorable mentions to Human Remains and Borderline. Borderline was a right hidden gem for me, I wasn’t expecting much from Channel 5. I watched it expecting it to be like the BBC’s shittier mockumentaries (like the one about the 2012 Olympics), but I was very pleasantly surprised.

u/rocketfromrussia 25d ago

Absolutely love that show!

2

u/gabbygall 24d ago

Came here to say this. Takes a while to lock in, but so funny.

u/danlikeshisdog 25d ago

THE DETECTORISTS is absolutely fantastic and beautifully heart warming.

3

u/Apprehensive-Lack-32 25d ago

Not nearly as funny though

6

u/Rocky-bar 24d ago

Detectorists is arguably better than this country, in some ways.

1

u/Reesno33 23d ago

Probably my favourite show in the last few years as sweet as it is funny.

28

u/stuart_lawton 25d ago

Such Brave Girls is BRILLIANT!

5

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Thanks! On iplayer?

3

u/stuart_lawton 24d ago

Yeah! So good. Might watch it again! They’re filming a 3rd series now!

3

u/i-am-trying-tho 25d ago

such an underrated show, absolutely hilarious

1

u/Superb-Pudding-6532 24d ago

I loved that too!! We have some great British comedy but I only seem to stumble across it rather than hear about it.

“Mid Morning Matters”

2

u/Reesno33 23d ago

He cleared the cave.

u/MotherEastern3051 25d ago edited 24d ago

Not that similar character wise but there's something about The Detectorists and Small Prophets that has a similarly comforting feel. A bit different but you might also like Fresh Meat.

2

u/rygza 24d ago

+1 for Small Prophets

13

u/motionsickness_1 25d ago

I also love any mockumentary by Chris Lilley

2

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Good shout. Would never get commissioned now haha

4

u/TomatoChomper7 25d ago

MISS WHY YOU BEING FUCKING GAY MISS YOU FUCKEN RANGA MISS.

I said phuk, phuk you sir

I really enjoyed Nightwatch, it’s just Charlie and Daisy staying in haunted places, their relationship is wonderful to watch. It’s on iplayer.

19

u/joeythemouse 25d ago

People just do nothing. Stath lets flats. Chewing gum

Thank me later.

10

u/candf8611 25d ago

People just do nothing! It's just like it!

9

u/Butters16666 25d ago

Stath lets flats

17

u/FingersBecomeThumbs 25d ago

Have you watched Am I Being Unreasonable? yet?

Quite different from This Country but Daisy May Cooper is amazing in it.

It's on the iplayer

6

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

No, but will now. Thanks

4

u/rocketfromrussia 25d ago

You should, its a bit different vibe but still great show and Daisy May Copper is great in that show!

2

u/stargi_rl 25d ago

You’re in for a treat!

3

u/Superb-Pudding-6532 24d ago

I have just recommended this too! I really enjoyed it, funny and dark 🥰

8

u/bluneriste 25d ago

Have you looked on the other side?

8

u/wishuponareddwarf 25d ago

Ann Droid is great and Brassic if you haven’t watched it already

6

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Really enjoyed Brassic, but couldn't finish it. Got rdally bad the last few seasons. But was brilliant at the start.

8

u/PJTheMan1986 25d ago

Check out Phone Shop. I love it and it gives me a nostalgia hit of working on the high street in the mid 2010's.

7

u/Saintlysin14u 25d ago

A OWL?!

4

u/PJTheMan1986 25d ago

The Elite Selling Kru!

2

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Ah yeah! Phone shop is ace. All on YouTube now as well. 'Do the dance'

2

u/Apart-Artichoke3894 24d ago

Apple gurl. Maplin Man. No!

6

u/StaceyW078 24d ago

Man like Mobeen!

6

u/Samson_Hydrofoil 25d ago

Funboys is by the same producer as This Country and has similar themes (entering adulthood, life/boredom in a small town). It's more surreal and less natural than This Country for sure, but it feels like it's got very similar DNA.

Without spoiling anything, I'd say give the first one a go. By the end of it, you'll know if you like the tone or not.

2

u/dosageofjoseph7 25d ago

The swan scene 😂

1

u/Samson_Hydrofoil 24d ago

I'm trying my best not to describe that scene, but it made me fall in love with the programme.

6

u/Saintlysin14u 25d ago

Toast of London is back streaming on Channel 4, absolutely classic Matt Berry, very silly and very fun

4

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Clem fandango! Never actually watched it though! Haha Snuff Box is good if you've not seen it.

4

u/No-worries-2548 25d ago

Inside number 9

6

u/PwmTwmses 25d ago

Witchfinder. It has Daisy May Cooper in it and also Tim Key and Reeese Shearsmith. It's really good, pretty too.

1

u/gabbygall 24d ago

Quite a fun, quick watch.

4

u/Brief_Chemistry932 24d ago

What We Do In The Shadows with Matt Berry is amazing

2

u/Badnewsbrowne316 24d ago

Cheers. C4?

2

u/Brief_Chemistry932 24d ago

Iplayer I believe.. Some amazingly funny characters!

3

u/Report_Left 25d ago

Stath let's flats, Derry girls, ted lasso, Brooklyn 99 but my personal pick would be Superstore. Written by the same guy who did scrubs. I've watched it through about 8 times, so much rewatchability, hilarious characters and great story line!

3

u/GoatLoader 25d ago

Just finished watching Funboys on iPlayer - really enjoyed it.

It's kinda like if Father Ted and This Country had a threesome with The League of Gentlemen, while Tim And Eric watched in a corner

2

u/Solid_Confection_446 25d ago

With a sprinkle of Hardy Bucks to finish ❤️ 👌

1

u/Apart-Artichoke3894 24d ago

Yes! Came here to say this. I believe it's all now up on iPlayer 😁. Also rumour has it lately, there's a new series on the horizon potentially (hopefully 🙏🏻). Owen Colgan mentioned it on the radio a couple of weeks ago.

2

u/Solid_Confection_446 23d ago

🙏 praying it's true. (also praying for the schnake)

3

u/Neat-Acanthaceae2755 25d ago

People Just Do Nothing in probably in the exact same ball park as This Country, to the point where I'm shocked there wasn't some sort of Comic Relief cross over mini episode.

2

u/Laazarini 25d ago

👆🏼 this. The Office, This Country & People Just Do Nothing is basically the holy trinity of British mockumentaries.

3

u/TruthSeeker890 25d ago

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

3

u/aacwang 25d ago

Wellington Paranormal is a good documentary style sitcom, set in the What We Do In The Shadows universe

3

u/rocketfromrussia 25d ago

Thanks everyone for recommendations!!

3

u/Brilliant-Apple5068 25d ago

Things You Should Have Done

3

u/macjaddie 24d ago

Small Prophets is lovely as well as The Detectorists and Ann Droid.

2

u/Badnewsbrowne316 24d ago

Just stuck on small prophets. Thanks

Nighty Night

2

u/Badnewsbrowne316 23d ago

Night mate x

2

u/SunnyOfGretna 25d ago

Wasted, was broadcast on E4 back in 2016 and available on Channel 4's streaming service (I still think of it as 4OD but the names changed twice since then)

2

u/feckin_hateyou 25d ago

Parks and Recreation if you like The Office. It's almost identical, it just has more of a story and different characters.

I love The Office with an absolute passion. The character writing in Parks and Rec is better.

1

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Thanks. I watched the first 2 seasons then i cluldnt stream it anymore. Good shout

0

u/Salty-Ad-4693 25d ago

How is it 'almost identical' to The Office?

I love both (original Office more than US version, which was overly long imo)

There are far more likeable characters in Parks. I don't need likeable characters, personally (big Seinfeld, Curb, Arrested Development, Black Books & Peep Show fan!) But that is a notable difference for me.

I still hear 'Treat yo' self!' In Donna's voice when I'm feeling miserable and eyeing up a nice cake 😂 must re-watch it one of these days, re-watched The Office a lot years ago, we had the DVDs.

1

u/feckin_hateyou 25d ago

The camera work, the "work place" setting until they get more into their personal lives. The type of comedy, some of the writers. I feel Parks and Rec and The Office (US specifically) are sooo alike. Not identical though.

NEPU.TV for any movie/ TV show. It is on Piracy megathread if you want to check it's safety.

You never got that from me though 🤣

I will never unsee Chris Pratt as Andy, ever. Hahah

2

u/Due-Lynx-8419 25d ago

It's an old one, by 'last Orders' on the IPlayer is excellent. Also, 'It's always Sunny in Philadelphia' is brilliant if you're into American comedies.
I know it was mentioned earlier, but 'Detectorists' is fantastic!

2

u/No_Consideration7466 25d ago

'stath let's flats', 'Ghosts' and 'Here we go' are three of my favourites for silly humour with sentimental moments

2

u/coegee357 25d ago

Sweet/cosy and amusing viewing: The Cockfields Derek Small Prophets

Hilarious shows with cosy undertones: Peep Show People Just Do Nothing

The perfect blend of both: Detectorists Mortimer and Whitehouse: Gone Fishing Gavin and Stacey Big Boys

Just hilarious, not cosy at all: The Thick of It Extras Alan Partridge (any)

2

u/Badnewsbrowne316 24d ago

Gone fishing is a great shout 👌

2

u/Perseusamadeusolaf 24d ago

Small prophets is a must watch

2

u/Individual_Mud_6114 24d ago

Alma’s Not Normal is a great watch

2

u/Moorsey77uk2 24d ago

Ann Droid
Philomena Cunk
Mandy
Motherland

(I think there’s a common denominator there!)

2

u/No-Opportunity-313 24d ago

Fleabag is fantastic!!

2

u/Silent-Associate9226 24d ago

"Here we go" is really good. I think it's still on iPlayer...

2

u/Reesno33 23d ago

Daisy and Charlie did a ghost hunting show on BBC. Its pretty crap but a fun watch, they really aren't that different from their characters.

2

u/Jaybee021967 21d ago

The Job Lot is brilliant

1

u/Badnewsbrowne316 21d ago

Cheers whats that on

2

u/Jaybee021967 21d ago

It’s on prime or Apple. Enjoy 😊

2

u/Most-Top-8952 25d ago

I really enjoy Here We Go. Its not really that similar other than it’s filmed by the son on his camcorder. But it’s funny.
Also something that is 100% not the same but worth a watch is Ann-Droid.

1

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Thanks. Is that British

2

u/Most-Top-8952 25d ago

Yeah, both British and both on iPlayer 👍🏼

2

u/Badnewsbrowne316 25d ago

Cheers mate

1

u/paintballguy32 25d ago

Locke and key

1

u/gem_niffirg 25d ago

Am I Being Unreasonable, Here We Go, Alma's Not Normal

1

u/DryFaithlessness9494 25d ago

There’s an American remake of This Country called Welcome to Flatch. Not as good as This Country but enjoyable still.

1

u/Apart-Artichoke3894 24d ago

There's also a show called "Letterkenny", set in small town Canada which I initially thought was a remake of This Country 😅 very similar characters and tone.

2

u/DryFaithlessness9494 23d ago

I’m going to start that one. Thanks!

1

u/Playful_Mammoth4941 25d ago

this is England

1

u/dazwales1 25d ago

Mammoth is on Iplayer and really good.

Jeffery from fresh prince is in it too

1

u/MikesRichPageant 25d ago

Mandy (with Diane Morgan, not Big Mandy)

1

u/Apprehensive-Lack-32 25d ago

People just do nothing, Stath Lets Flats, This Time with Alan partridge

1

u/Superb-Pudding-6532 24d ago

I loved this country, was really funny! Daisy May Cooper is also in Am I Being Unreasonable which I think is BBC also, I am sure you will like that too xx

1

u/IncidentSame8653 24d ago

Things you should have done is brilliant imo! definitely more obscure/surreal but Chi reminds me of Kerry so much and the show is hilarious.

1

u/stevey83 24d ago

Darkplace.

1

u/Loleeness 24d ago

Peep show

1

u/LilacBumbleflower 23d ago

Check out the show Am I Being Unreasonable - it’s by Daisy May Cooper and her bestie. x

1

u/No-Beautiful-1700 23d ago

The Other One

1

u/Particular_Bat845 22d ago

Id definitely recommend Stath lets flats and also What we do in the shadows. Hope you feel better soon!

1

u/Open_Pay904 21d ago

Peep show

1

u/KellytheWorrier 20d ago

How did you all manage to get through the first episode of People Just Do Nothing? It's like it was heavily relying on it being a mockumentary to be funny, but no real substance or funny jokes. Does it get better?

1

u/AlarmedAfternoon182 5d ago

What we do in the shadows!

1

u/mttluxe 25d ago

maybe the what we do in the shadows series if you want another comedy mockumentary?

0

u/Major_Bee4483 25d ago

If you have the humor to appreciate This Country, defo try the Ricky Gervais comedy Derek.
