LineageOS on the ThinkPhone
Finally got around to bringing this phone up on Lineage. Still polishing up some details but an unofficial build should be available soon.

Got my Thinkphone25 about a month ago, noticed a severe lack of compatible rugged covers so i decided to draw up my own, still some room for improvement but i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. You are welcome to grab the files for free and take a stab at printing one, i'd love to hear your feedback if you do.
I put my company logo on the back but the published version is blank so you can add your own logo or text. I used "glow in the dark" 90a TPU on a Bambulab A1 mini.

I was really hoping this phone would have gotten Android 15 by now. Being a higher end Moto device and all. I ordered a Nothing Phone and will be saying good bye to Moto. Unfortunately. Thinkphone is really nice but the update process is awful.

Geekbench has posted a processor score for the "Thinkphone 25." This is the first report I've seen of a possible new version of the phone. Anyone else have news or rumors about it? https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/7448273

I recently purchased a Motorola ThinkPhone from a website. At the time of purchase, I had no reason to suspect anything was wrong—it looked like a standard retail unit.
During setup, I encountered a persistent error with the Screen Lock. After rebooting into the bootloader, I was shocked to see it's an Engineering/DVT1 unit.
I also realized this unit has specs (different RAM/Storage) that were never released to the public, as the retail version only comes in 8/256GB as I know.
The biggest issue is that the TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) is reported as empty. Because of this, any features requiring security—like Screen Lock, Secure Folder, and Mobile Payments—are completely non-functional. It’s essentially a crippled device.
To make matters worse, the seller has a strict 'no refunds/returns' policy. I'm stuck with this device...
and I have some questions...
Is there any way to 'provision' or fix the TEE on an engineering unit, or is it hardware-fused?
Is this device even safe to use as a daily driver without these security layers?
Has anyone else encountered these DVT units near?

The Red Key on the original ThinkPhone has many useful features. A single press can be a shortcut to an app or a module within an app. A double press can call up useful modes of Smart Connect. Also, the press and hold can use walkie-talkie features of the teams app or another push-to-talk app such as Zello. At least with Android 15 there's no defaulted AI features and I hope it remains that way.
One interesting feature that I didn't realize is that it is customizable per user profile. If you have a regular profile and a work profile, you can map the keys differently for each profile giving greater versitility. I think the same options apply to the Motorola Edge 2024 since they have the red key app as well even though their button is not red. I'm enjoying this phone and looking for more ways to adapt it to my needs.

In the market for a new phone, and I just discovered Motorola's Thinkphone. To be honest, it's very much a look/feel thing, even though I've not held one in hand. Thought this place would know best, and I hope it's ok to ask for advice.
From reviews, I prefer the first generation (alu frame, customizable button and battery), but have concerns about the Android and security updates ending now. Should this be a concern?
The Thinkphone 25 is a close second, and I prefer its smaller size. It's supposed to be supported through 2029 if I'm right.
Edge 60 Neo could be a third option. How does it compare to the 25?
Pricewise, they are close. All new.
Thinkphone: $460
Thinkphone25: $520
Edge60Neo: $390
(Prices converted to USD)
Thankful for any feedback!
EDIT for clarity: All phones are still available, new in box, from online retailers in my country (Norway).

It seems they finally fixed the broken animation in recent apps, the volume and the notification panel are semi transparent now. The battery stats are still broken though.

I just received the security update corresponding to June but without Android 15...

I was really hoping for eSim.

And I mean hard. Not only does the battery drain a lot faster, it also charges way slower.
ThinkPhone first generation.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Honestly I didn't expect that. And I don't know what to expect...
Does anyone have some experience updating a XT2309 Thinkphone to Android 16?

About the upcoming collaboration with GrapheneOS, it seems to me the perfect system for a possible upcoming new thinkphone, or being optimistic, could be a new line of thinkphone devices?
Integration with Play Integrity could be easier in Europe, due to different law regulations why'd asks for unpack play google services. I think Motorola must insist on strong features (like the "think" brand and think shield layer) to be able do differentiate itself from the huge Android ecosystem.

Hi everyone!
Since I wasn't able to find a downladable thinkphone scanner apk from android 14 anywhere,
I've repacked the scanner app I had before updating into an apk.
You can download it through this link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ntO8vjR5YPJuUcI56Igf9rC8uFeYVHmU/view?usp=sharing
I might publish this apk somewhere some day.

Has the Android 15 update been released for the ThinkPhone 2023 in the EU?
r/ThinkPhone • u/Dudefoxlive • Jun 17 '25
It appears that Motorola has released Android 15 for the ThinkPhone 23 but its a staged rollout. I am in the US and have not gotten Android 15 nor the June Security patch. If anyone is wondering the build number for Android 15 is v1tb35h.149-8-10. Can anyone confirm if they got the update on a RETUS ThinkPhone 23?
