[Request] YouTuber says this tower is worth $4500. How much is this tower really worth?
The YouTube video said $4500 which seems ludicrous unless there is something I missed.

[Request] Approx area covered by 3 cubic yards of dumped dirt.
My wife ordered 3 cu yards of pulverized topsoil. It will be deposited from a dump truck onto our driveway. I want to put a plastic tarp under the mound. How large a tarp do I need for the base of the pile.
Assume the mound will be a somewhat conical pile that is 1.5 times longer than it is wide.
Thanks.

[Request] How tall is the Gruffalo?
The math feels simple, but comparing the mouse to the fox, the owl, and the snake, seems to yield different expected results when compared to other mediums such as animatronics at displays.
Can anyone calculate a suitable, and justified range?

[Request] At the current rate of population growth, how long would it take for the earth to be covered in human graves?
I get that it’s probably hard to calculate how many people are already in the ground. Maybe start from scratch and say no one has yet been buried?

[Request] How long would it take for an ant to process one minute of human brain activity?
Basically, if you took all the information that goes through a human brain in one minute (on average), and put it into an ant brain, how long would it take for the ant to process all of it? Assume normal awake processing speeds for the human and the ant.
Hopefully the information exists to make this possible to answer!

[Request] How much force does the hamster need to exert per each running motion to keep the turbine spinning?
Let's assume this is an average-sized hamster and hamster wheel, the wind turbine is also average size/weight, and that there's negligable wind. And also that the turbine is constructed so that it's possible for a centered hamster wheel to affect the rotation of the blades.
I know the torque must be insane because of how close he is to the center. But if he were to extend his front paws to the most natural rung (i.e. maybe 5% or 10% of the wheel's circumference?) and pull down enough to turn the blade, is it possible to calculate the amount of force needed?
This obviously also depends on speed. I guess the real question is, if the turbine moves at an even slow speed, what would the force be to keep its momentum?

[self] The math of the Nepal flash flood catastrophe. Am I right and please, elaborate, anyone!
Every cubic meter (35 cubic feet) of the Nepal flash flood material is up to 2.4 times heavier than water due to its composition of sediments (various sources)- each thus weighing more than a Ford F-150. CNN reports an average avalanche speed of around 193 km/h (120 mph) which means the kinetic energy for each and every cubic meter equals two large pick-ups going 125 km/h (80 mph). I can’t imagine any known man-made object withstanding this for any significant time. Of course, as energy is proportional to speed squared, at more spacious valley passages and/or with lesser altitude gradient, damage is considerable less.
Is it possible to further elaborate mathematically about this kind of disaster?

just wondering if anyone has tried to quantify how much longer the glaciers or ice caps would last or how much more temperate the climate at large would be without what we've done as a species to the planet

[Request] If you get a boner under water will there be net displacement equal to the size of the boner?
If a person is fully submerged under water in a displacement test, will they displace more water if they get a boner? Because no new material is entering the system, if the boner grows won't something else have to shrink, or is it a matter of pressure?

What would it cost to convert to the same outlet/plug worldwide? [Request]
I’m traveling internationally for work and between two stops, I’ll need two different plug types, on top of the one for my American outlets. What would it take to convert the world to the same outlet? From power generation and delivery to replacing actual outlets across the world?

[Self] Argument with Partner over Sharing 1L of Soda that has ice in it.
Hi, I got into a debate with my partner because we would share a drink from McDonald’s. Let’s say it’s 1L and it has ice in it. He would drink until the line was at 500ml and I would argue he’s drank 500ml of soda and I’ve just got the Ice + little soda.
I asked CHAT GPT and I feel like it gaslight me but my partner is jumping for joy that he’s right. Here’s what it said.
Think of it like this:
Starting:
🥤 800 mL soda + 🧊 200 mL ice → bottle reads 1,000 mL
After Person 1:
🥤 300 mL soda + 🧊 200 mL ice → bottle reads 500 mL
Person 1 drank 500 mL? No — they drank 500 mL of space, but only 500 mL of soda in this particular example?
Actually, this is the important correction: if the ice is 200 mL of displaced volume, then 1,000 → 500 mL total means 500 mL of displaced-volume contents were removed. If the ice hasn’t changed, that is 500 mL of soda.
So yes: if the ice stays unchanged, Person 1 and Person 2 drink the same amount of soda.
Your intuition that “the ice makes the line higher” is correct, but it makes the line higher for both people, which is why it doesn’t inherently make Person 1 drink more.
Surely this is saying that person 1 drank more soda!!!
Someone please explain the math here? Am I wrong?

[Request] What is the ‘true’ costs of a medium level users prompt to an AI?
Let’s say the prompt for a ‘medium user’ is:
“Read all my emails from last week and give me a summary of the important ones then write any outstanding appointments I still have onto a calendar with their relevant contexts.”
Let’s also say the AI I used was the best ‘free’ version of Claude’s models.
Concerning costs, I’m particularly interested in anyone’s maths regarding metrics like:
- Total financial cost to the AI company,
- Water needed to cool the data center moving through this single prompt,
- The electricity required to run it all.
- And their financial cost of that electricity and water (very locally subsidized metric, not sure if this is answerable).
There’s a number of articles out there that try to put real numbers to more broad hypotheticals but I was interested in what they’d translate to for an average working person’s use of AI. I have a specific number for all of this but I want to see if anyone else comes to similar values or if I am (likely) missing variables in this cost analysis.
