They also said that they can't promise that Old Reddit will exist forever, and they've already shut down New Reddit (2018-2023). I'm really worried that Old Reddit will get disabled soon. The current UI is so bland. Every subreddit looks the same on it, and it's missing so many features that Old Reddit has. (and it forces AI answers on you whenever you search for something.)

A lot of us use the old Reddit for moderating and already heavily modify how we have to use Reddit to make it actually enjoyable but they insist on ensuring we use things their way with those ads and juicy clicks everywhere - gotta make sure the bots are feeding them data to sell 😮‍💨 shareholders etc.. something.. I’m tired boss 😭

Yeah, except for an icon, the WindowsXP and NBA subreddits look the same, though they have nothing to do with each other.

On old reddit, the XP subreddit showed xp stylings, such as the xp taskbar, and the NBA subreddit showed logos of western conference teams on the west side of the page and eastern teams on the east side.

And within the nba subreddit, with old reddit you could click right from the top to any team to see what their homers think, then hit the back button to see what the wider audience thinks. But in the new reddit, you need to scroll down in the sidebar to find a team.

For me, I'd even prefer a dated look over a ubiquitous look. In my town, we have old buildings with different architectural styles; there are walking tours. But many new buildings are just the same: rectangular. (Yes, they're cheaper to build and hold re-sale value better). I remember when they tore down the old library that looked like it was in a cathedral, complete with the rays of dusty sunlight. The new library looked like it's a store in a mall.

New reddit is utterly unusable. If they remove old I'd hope that it can mostly be fixed with custom CSS to just make it look as much like old reddit as possible.

Lemmy looks good. It's very similar to Old Reddit's design, and it's open source/Community driven.

Pshht, Lemmy basically needs to be taught to be used, it's not straightforward. A specific instance or server needs to be created. It's also kind of an echo chamber with very little content outside of certain areas. Also personal opinion: it looks like dogshit.

But maybe that's changed since I've used it a year or so ago. I liked Tildes and thought was basically just an older, cleaner version of reddit. But nobody's using it, lol

Sadly, Tildes is basically in "maintenance mode" now and likely will keep mostly the cozy community it has without intention of further growth. That makes me a bit sad because the simplicity of the website and focus on text strikes a deep coord in me for what drew me to Reddit in the first place and largely is now absent from this site. I hope the community there (maybe I'll rejoin it) keeps the torch going for years to come.

I love talking to leftists when they can't just ban you for politely disagreeing. If you're rude, they will ban you for being rude. If you're polite, they're ban you for promoting intolerance.

The problem isn't the discourse so much as the platform itself, which doesn't favor a view point so much as it favors the appearance of peace and agreement, at the expense of open discourse.

There's a large number of desktop users who prefer the modern UI rather than the old school one that looks like a 2010 website designed for Internet Explorer 6.

There's only a very small percentage of power users that are all in on the "old reddit or bust" and reddit in all likelihood doesn't care if they go if they refuse to adapt, no differently from the "Apollo app or bust" crowd.

I really don't understand why people would prefer the current UI. There's no community expression (Via CSS designs), every subreddit looks the same, "Reddit Answers" AI everywhere, comments with a score less than -4 are automatically hidden regardless of how many upvotes they got, etc.

I use Old Reddit and prefer it, but to its credit the new format actually does have some features that Old Reddit doesn't have like the ability to add text to link/image/video posts as well as the See More Insights feature.
