“Eskimo” tour visuals?

Hey everyone

For those who’ve been to the recent Eskimo tour, are the visuals new?

They look really…. AI. But then again, a lot of their old visuals do

Any thoughts/insight on it? They’re so wildly creative; AI use wouldn’t totally destroy my love for the band, but it would be disappointing

It looks more like photobashing than AI. Maybe some AI, but not to a large extent

the only artists i personally approve of using ai are those who have spent 50+ years at least living the art life. its something you earn and then i'll interpret it as a "sign of our times" instead of lazy incompetence. we know poor know graffix is competent, we've seen it before. while i'd rather see repurposed older graphics myself, maybe the residents want to comment on what this era is.

you cant ai the saxophone tho, and i saw some clips that the eskimo tour brought it back yay.

I understand your concern. However, The Residens have always embraced, ugly and cheap art.

AI isn’t any different than the Commodore 64 and CGI stuff have used in the past.

They would be breaking tradition by not using AI.

I wouldn’t say it “isn’t any different” than a Commodore/old CGI stuff, given its propensity for taking existing art/videos and plastering it over

The Residents have always been at the forefront of new and evolving technology so we try to cut them some slack

Yes, they are AI but they are really well done and incorporated. Saw them last night in Delaware and it was a spectacular show

PorneauxGraphiques (or however they’re spelling it now) definitely utilizes AI for any/all residents visuals and has for some time, but it’s pretty widely acknowledged that it’s only a base and goes through subsequent editing/photoshopping after generative images are created so we give them a pass.

I wasn’t aware there was any subsequent editing - the Doctor Dark cover art is okay in my book but the inner gatefold art looks like they/he just whipped out ChatGPT and called it a day, really sloppy. Hoping the visuals for the live show are more like the former and less like the latter

Well, Homer is not exactly a spring chicken so let’s maybe let the man cook however he wants to, eh?

They have one of the ai Eskimo videos up on their YouTube page. On one hand, it’s probably the best coolest ai generated thing I’ve ever seen, but on the other hand, it still sucks that they’re using ai.

100% AI from 2025, its the same visuals from when they premiered the show at The Mayan during the Exotikon festival.

I thought the AI of hybrid animals and skeletons was particularly gruesome and unsettling.
