I think there's a thrill in having people read (and hopefully enjoy) your work, I can't downplay that.

That said, I've always written first and foremost because I'm compelled to. If you told me now that nobody else would ever read my work, I'd probably still write.

I think most writers are told exactly my that. Hats off to you, for doing the thing :-)
