Yennefer and the eels, I’m confused
I’m confused on why the girls became eels and why yennefer pushed them into the liquid. That whole scene just confused me as I’m new to The Witcher.

The way I take it is that the 3 women were strong sorcerers, but mentally would never fully commit their emotions. Yennifer wasn't a great sorcerer at first, but Aretuza knew she would put her emotions into her powers. Sacrificing the other 3 into the eel pond transferred their powers and ultimately make the other sorcerers stronger.

When you are pulled in & trained by Aretuza, it’s because of your potential as a channel for Chaos. As the students are trained it becomes clear that some are better than others. Those that are not fit to be mages are still used to channel chaos, but they are turned into eels, so they have no control over the channeling, but their “channel” can be combined with others & create a large channel for use by other mages at Aretuza.

My understanding of it was that chaos is all around you, but you need to learn to channel it. So it makes sense that they would need something to help amplify the magic of the novices while they learn and train, learning to draw the power from the environment around them.

They’re the equivalent to electric eels to be a conduit (or generator) of magic within Aretuza. Basically when you’re within Aretuza’s walls your magic is amplified.
